NYPD Screw

From ABC News:

Well before it was publicly known he was seeing her, then-married New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani provided a police driver and city car for his mistress Judith Nathan, former senior city officials tell the Blotter on ABCNews.com.

“She used the PD as her personal taxi service,” said one former city official who worked for Giuliani.

The former city officials said Giuliani expanded the budget for his security detail at the time.

…snip…

The former officials told ABCNews.com the extra costs involved overtime and per diem costs for officers traveling with Giuliani to secret weekend rendezvous with Nathan in the fashionable Hamptons resort area on Long Island.

From WCBS TV:

At the dawn of 2001, Nathan was Giuliani’s good friend and was receiving a blanket of police protection. It was an unusual circumstance, as his wife, first lady Donna Hanover, was still living at Gracie Mansion with their children.

…snip…

Six years later, presidential candidate Giuliani is facing questions about that security. A source involved with the mayor’s operations at the time tells CBS 2 HD that Nathan took flagrant advantage of that police car and driver.

The source says Nathan forced police to chauffeur her friends and family around the city — even when she wasn’t in the car.

That set off alarms with ethics watchdogs.

“The rules are clear, you can’t use city resources for private reasons,” said Gene Russianoff of the New York Public Interest Research Group. “And if you’re using a city car, a police driven car to chauffeur around relatives, unless they’re explicitly protected and their deemed to be the subject of potential security threats, it’s just wrong.”

Nathan’s detail was approved by the NYPD after a stranger made an unspecified threat to her. The commissioner at the time was Bernard Kerik, who was recently indicted on tax fraud charges in an unrelated matter.

“It wasn’t about her being the mayor’s girlfriend,” Kerik said. “The person spoke to her by name and made comments to her.”

And we all know that good old Bernie never, ever lies!!

Giuliani’s press secretary, Maria Comella, angrily denounced the use of an unnamed source in this story.

But she did not deny the assertion that Nathan used her police detail to ferry around friends and family.

From the New York Daily News:

In the fall of 2001, city cops chauffeured Rudy Giuliani’s then-mistress, Judith Nathan, to her parents’ Pennsylvania home 130 miles away on the taxpayers’ dime.

…snip…

The records show that – in addition to using City Hall funds to take Giuliani and Nathan to 11 secret trysts in the Hamptons, as has been previously reported – taxpayers were paying to ferry Nathan on long-distance trips without Giuliani, now a Republican contender for President.

…snip…

At the time, it was not uncommon to see Nathan being chauffeured around the city in an undercover Dodge with two detectives, who sometimes even helped to walk her dog.

No word on what the unspecified threat to the pooch was, but word is that a cat called him by name and made comments to him.

I can’t imagine a better movie for this spoof of Rudy, Judy, and Bernie! Nice work, nonnie!

About that cat who made remarks to Judy’s dog…

All cats are suspect, but this one was obviously a terr’ist and a threat to Mister and Mistress 9-11. Of course the dog needed protection. And besides, Judy needed someone to man the pooper-scooper.

i am sure that the cat was persian–in other words, iranian!!
