Well, he did take up space in college!

From The New York Times:

The order by President Bush for the Navy to launch an antimissile interceptor to destroy a disabled satellite before it falls from orbit carries opportunity, but also potential embarrassment, for the administration and advocates of its missile defense program.

Oh boy!! The Commanderer told the Navy to shoot down the evil space thing! This is gonna be so cool!!

Original DVD cover.

Often compared to hitting a bullet with a bullet, the shooting down of ballistic missiles with an interceptor rocket is difficult, as an adversary’s warheads would be launched unexpectedly on relatively short arcs — and most likely more than one at a time.

So it should be easier for the Standard Missile 3, a Navy weapon launched from an Aegis cruiser in the northern Pacific, to find and strike a satellite almost the size of a school bus making orbits almost as regular as bus routes around the globe, 16 times a day.

Should it succeed, the accomplishment would embolden those who champion even more spending on top of the $57.8 billion appropriated by Congress for missile defenses since the Bush administration’s first budget in the 2002 fiscal year.

It might even revive a dormant effort to focus the military on antisatellite operations, as well. Failure, on the other hand, would be cited as hard and fresh evidence for those who point to the futility of space-warfare programs.

…snip…

The United States is perhaps the nation most dependent on satellites, both for commerce and for military communications, reconnaissance and targeting. And, to be sure, the Bush administration was harshly critical when the Chinese launched an antisatellite missile last year, the first time any nation had blasted an object in space in the 22 years since the United States last conducted such a test.

At the same time, however, the United States has resisted suggestions that a new arms-control regime be negotiated to govern space weapons, and has asserted its sovereign right to defend its own access to space and to deny it to others in future wars.

Wow! Just think what might be in store for Commanderer Chimpy!

    hahahahaHA!

    More later, but for now…

Where is Bush’s codpiece? (Pardon me for even looking “down there,” but he seems so naked without it.)

  2. nonnie9999

there is no codpiece, because, as they say, there is no there there.

  3. Got a Grip

I think there’s no codpiece because Bush has run out of socks with which to stuff it and is waiting for a new shipment to come in from China…. 😉

  4. You know, in all seriousness, this does raise the issue that if some country out there really wanted to mess us up, they’d figure out a way to shoot down our satellites.

  5. Got a Grip

There are many ways that they could mess us up that would be easier than shooting down our satellites, but yes, they could do it. BushCo hasn’t kept us safe. Far from it. Target practice on wayward satellites will do nothing to improve our safety, it will only incite anger and cause further escalation in another cold war effort. Sometimes I think that’s really all Bush wants, he’s just trying to bring on real reasons to bolster his false fear-mongering.

it’s more classic bullshit from your chimpy administration. this is from the independent:

Other researchers point out that 42 objects fell to Earth last year, including one with a form of hydrazine on board and a dozen others containing hydrazine residue. They put the risk of someone being harmed at about one in a trillion. “Having the US government spend millions of dollars to destroy a billion-dollar failure to save zero lives is comedic gold,” one expert told Wired magazine’s blog.

this is going to cost–i think i read–between 40 to 60 million dollars. it’s amazing. how many kids could have health care for that kind of money?

  7. Got a Grip

Yes, it’s total bullshit. Stuff they shoot up there comes back down all the time. Most of it burns up on re-entry. Even the crap that is in low orbit has minimal chance of hitting anything. It’s just our temper-tantrum thrower in chief, playing with his expensive toys. He doesn’t give a rat’s ass about whether children will suffer because they don’t have healthcare, or food for that matter. It’s all about him and his rich buddies getting their jollies…..

  8. nonnie9999

they just want an excuse to restart reagan’s star wars fantasy. lots of money for their rich friends.

Just what we need is more military spending in face of health care, mortgage, and debt crises.

How about if we need to increase anti-missile defense spending we reduce military spending somewhere else? We could start by closing unneeded foreign bases and also could be used as a sign to the world we want to end our aggressive meddling ways.

    Oh, loved the George images!

    hey mj! 😀
    welcome to the raisin.
chimpy will never take money away from his military bases or, heaven forbid–blackwater 😯 ! if he is forced to take money from somewhere else, he will take it from funds that are supposed to go to poor and middle-class people or sick or hungry kids. that’s what makes uncle dick proud.

  11. Friend of the court

Wonder where that missile will end up, if they miss? Chimpy had better hope it doesn’t land in Poland. His list of “friends”, is pretty short, already.

    fotc.
what’s the name of the place where cheney lives? oh, yeah, admiral’s house. just curious. i wasn’t suggesting locations or anything. 🙂

  13. Friend of the court

I thought the name of the place where Cheney lives is, “an undisclosed location”.

  14. maybe it will land in crawford

  15. Friend of the court

Ha, that would clear his brush.

😆 it’s too bad that chimpy seems to always have luck on his side of the silver platter. it doesn’t matter what horrible things he has done; he still gets rewarded in some way. i guess a large part of that is that he doesn’t really give a damn about what anyone else thinks. i hope the satellite lands on the bubble he and his buddies live in!
