The End of the (Big) Story

From The New York Times:

Fox News Channel, tinkering for the first time in eight years with its popular early evening lineup, is replacing its 5 p.m. news broadcast, “The Big Story,” with an election-theme program for the foreseeable future. The network confirmed this week that “America’s Election HQ,” a program that displaced “The Big Story” temporarily last month, would continue indefinitely.

Original DVD cover.

John Gibson, the longtime host of “The Big Story,” will continue to have a role on television, the network said, although it appears that his future for now lies mostly on radio.

From TV Newser:

Originally set to run through Super Tuesday II, then extended through the end of last week, TVNewser has learned America’s Election HQ will continue indefinitely during the 5pmET hour on FNC.

Bill Hemmer and Megyn Kelly (when she returns from her honeymoon) will serve as the permanent co-anchors.

TVNewser hears John Gibson and Heather Nauert, co-anchors of the previous 5pmET show, Big Story, will continue to play a role in the 5pmET hour as well as during other FNC programs.

With the political primary season continuing throughout March and April, the move appears to be based on the election focus of the show.

But the ratings game also plays in Hemmer and Kelly’s favor.

First Mothertucker Carlson, and now Gibby? How will I live with the grief?

By the way, speaking of the media, have any of you kids seen Lou Dobbs lately? I try to avoid the blathering old fool at all costs, but i just happened to catch him for a moment doing his blurb on Wolf Blitzer’s show. Has anyone else noticed something different about old Lou, or is it my imagination. Does he have new teeth? As I recall, the old ones were rather crooked on the bottom, and today they were very white and perfectly straight. It also seemed to me that he spoke like people speak after they have dental work done and something is different in their pie holes. His words were not clear, and I kept expecting him to start spitting or drooling. I found a screencap, so you tell me, kids. Is it my imagination?

  1. Radio… ouch! What a demotion.

Nice to see some tremors over at Fox News. Now if NBC would only take a damned hint and get Donahue back and make Keith their new flagship anchor instead of that empty suit Brian Williams. If not, I think CBS could redeem it’s pathetic reputation in these dark years of the Couric and snatch up Keith and reclaim those heady days of Murrow. God knows we’ve got more than our share of McCarthy’s to deal with.

    hi lethologica! 😀
    welcome to the raisin.
radio might be a demotion, but it can still be quite exciting!
to tell you the truth, i can’t think of one anchor on the air now who i trust. i wish we could clone bill moyers. i would like to go back to the days when the news was a collection of facts, and the opinions were left to others.
