Droppin’ a Doocy

From Think Progress:

Discussing Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s (R) prospects as Sen. John McCain’s (R-AZ) running mate this morning on Fox and Friends, Brian Kilmeade said Sen. Joe Biden (D-DE) “is going to capitalize” in a debate with Palin because “she has no international relations experience, she’s not the chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee.” Co-host Steve Doocy then jumped in to try to set the record straight.

DOOCY: But the other thing about her, she does know about international relations because she is right up there in Alaska right next door to Russia

Conventional Wisdom, Part III

From Business Week:

Obama Gets His Attack Dog
It can’t be easy hitting the Democratic convention podium after the pair of Clintons and the attendant drama over whether they would, or wouldn’t, be effusive enough in their backing for Barack Obama. No one worried about that when Joe Biden’s turn came to speak. Instead, the drama surrounding the new vice presidential nominee’s speech centered on a simpler question: just how aggressively would he go on the attack against McCain?

Conventional Wisdom, Part II

More great lines from the Democratic National Convention. This time, Hillary Clinton on Tuesday:

More economic stagnation …and less affordable health care.

More high gas prices …and less alternative energy.

More jobs getting shipped overseas …and fewer jobs created here.

More skyrocketing debt …home foreclosures …and mounting bills that are crushing our middle class families.

More war . . . less diplomacy.

More of a government where the privileged come first …and everyone else comes last.

John McCain says the economy is fundamentally sound. John McCain doesn’t think that 47 million people without health insurance is a crisis. John McCain wants to privatize Social Security. And in 2008, he still thinks it’s okay when women don’t earn equal pay for equal work.

With an agenda like that, it makes sense that George Bush and John McCain will be together next week in the Twin Cities. Because these days they’re awfully hard to tell apart.

I know the only way I can tell them apart is by looking at their shoes and the number of houses they own!

Conventional Wisdom, Part I

Hey kids! I thought we would take some of the best quotes from the Democratic National Convention and have some fun with them. First up, Senator Bob Casey of Pennsylvania:

The people of Pennsylvania can’t afford four more years of Bush-Cheney economics, and you know what — with John McCain, that’s exactly what we’d get. John McCain calls himself a maverick, but he votes with George Bush over 90 percent of the time. That’s not a maverick. That’s a sidekick.

Who’s Your Daddy Yankee?

Kids, I hate to be the one to break to you, but all is lost. While Barack Obama may have Halle Berry, Scarlett Johansson, Robert DeNiro, Stevie Wonder, John Legend, Usher, and George Clooney on his side, Captain Underpants has secured the endorsement of all endorsements! From The Christian Science Monitor:

Things aren’t that bad for Senator John McCain. After being dissed by Madonna last night in England, he’s got his own singer who’s endorsing him.

Latin American singer Daddy Yankee (aka Ramon Ayala), most famous for his song “Gasolina,” joined McCain in his home state of Arizona this morning. The duo appeared at Phoenix’s Central High School.

Must-watch video at the link above! Seriously, you will be wondering, just like I am, why this guy is singing instead of working in rocket science or doing brain surgery!

When the Inmates Take Over

From The New York Times:

WASHINGTON — Immigrants seeking asylum in the United States have been disproportionately rejected by judges whom the Bush administration chose using a conservative political litmus test, according to an analysis of Justice Department data.

The analysis suggests that the effects of a patronage-style selection process for immigration judges — used for three years before it was abandoned as illegal — are still being felt by scores of immigrants whose fates are determined by the judges installed in that period.

Joe and Jill went up Capitol Hill….

From the Los Angeles Times:

WASHINGTON — The personification of the white-haired Washington insider, Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Joseph R. Biden Jr. has spent more than half his life in the Senate, seemingly so in love with his own voice that his colleagues must fight to be heard at his hearings.

A hundred miles away from Capitol Hill, however, is another Joe Biden — more a character in Mister Rogers’ neighborhood than a globe-trotting statesman or a pontificating fixture on the Sunday talk shows.

He is a putterer who plants bushes in his backyard and designed his own house, including space for his elderly parents. He’s a man quick to find a doctor for someone’s sick grandmother or hold a fundraiser for a local firefighter battling cancer.

Biden Time

From The New York Times:

WASHINGTON — Senator Barack Obama introduced Senator Joseph R. Biden Jr. as his running mate on Saturday, a choice that strengthens the Democratic ticket’s credentials on foreign policy heading into the general election against Senator John McCain.

In Mr. Biden, Mr. Obama selected a six-term senator best known for his expertise on foreign affairs — Mr. Biden spent last weekend in Georgia as that nation engaged in a tense confrontation with Russia — and his skills at political combat.
