Who’s Your Daddy Yankee?

Kids, I hate to be the one to break to you, but all is lost. While Barack Obama may have Halle Berry, Scarlett Johansson, Robert DeNiro, Stevie Wonder, John Legend, Usher, and George Clooney on his side, Captain Underpants has secured the endorsement of all endorsements! From The Christian Science Monitor:

Things aren’t that bad for Senator John McCain. After being dissed by Madonna last night in England, he’s got his own singer who’s endorsing him.

Latin American singer Daddy Yankee (aka Ramon Ayala), most famous for his song “Gasolina,” joined McCain in his home state of Arizona this morning. The duo appeared at Phoenix’s Central High School.

Must-watch video at the link above! Seriously, you will be wondering, just like I am, why this guy is singing instead of working in rocket science or doing brain surgery!

Original DVD cover.

Now, kids, I bet most of you are thinking exactly what I was thinking– Who the fu¢k is Daddy Yankee? Wow! What a coup!! Let’s get back to the article…

Truthfully, the audience at the school (from this vantage point, most appeared to be teenage girls) looked somewhat bored with the senator’s message. But they sprang to life – complete with squeals – when McCain introduced the reggaeton star. (See video below).

McCain acknowledged, in his remarks, that at least for this audience he had far less gusto than Mr. Yankee.

“I know why you are sitting here, and that is not to listen to me so much, but I brought a special friend along with me today, a great American success story,” the senator said. “One of his most famous songs, I know you’re very familiar with, ‘Gasolina.’ Well, here he is, Daddy Yankee.”

The singer offered a quick endorsement for McCain before hugging and kissing the squealing young women.

…snip…

The sound bite of the day came when the star was asked what his song “Gasolina” was about. Without hesitation he said, “Energy independence.”

A song about energy independence? We have to look into that further!

Here’s one of the English translations I found on the internets:

Gasolina – Daddy Yankee
Da – ddy Yan- kee !
shake it mambo so that my cat (cat = babe) can turn on the engine,
shake it mambo so that my cat (cat = babe) can turn on the engine,
shake it mambo so that my cat (cat = babe) can turn on the engine,

Get ready, because whats coming is to give it to her, (hard!
Mamita, I know that you aren’t going to take away (hard!)
What I like is that you let yourself get taken away (hard!)
every weekend she goes out to have fun (hard!)
my cat doesn’t stop hanging out because

She likes gasoline (give me more gasoline!)
How she loves gasoline (give me more gasoline!) 2x

She turns on the turbine
she doesn’t discriminate
She doesn’t even miss a fancy dress dinner
She gets dressed up even to go to the corner store
She wears things so well that even shadow favors her
assasin, she dominates me
she hangs out in cars, motorcycles, and limousines,
she fills her tank with adrenaline,
when she listen to reggaeton in the kitchen

She likes gasoline (give me more gasoline!)
How she loves gasoline (give me more gasoline!) 2x

(me!) Here I’m one of the best
Don’t leave me
On the track they call us “the killers”
You make anyone fall in love
when you dance to the rhythm of the drums
this goes out to cats (cats = babes) of all colors
for the older ones, for the younger ones,
for those who are more foxy (foxy = player) that the hunters
for the women who never turn off their engines

You and I have something coming
you owe me something and you know it
with me, she loses herself,
she doesn’t surrender explanations to anyone 2x

shake it mambo so that my cat (cat = babe) can turn on the engine,
shake it mambo so that my cat (cat = babe) can turn on the engine,
shake it mambo so that my cat (cat = babe) can turn on the engine,

Get ready, because whats coming is to give it to her, (hard!
Mamita, I know that you aren’t going to take away (hard!)
What I like is that you let yourself get taken away (hard!)
every weekend she goes out to have fun (hard!)
my cat doesn’t stop hanging out because

She likes gasoline (give me more gasoline!)
how she loves gasoline (give me more gasoline!) 2x

Yep, sure sounds like it is about energy independence to me! And Captain Underpants is a Yankee Daddy Dandy!

Here’s your translation to English of the song. Being a native Spanish speaker, I might have lacked some good American Slang words for a more accurate translation, but I think I did it well enough. If you know some Spanish, you’ll see that I did not a literal translation. For example “gata” is literally a female cat, but in this context it is the Puerto Rican slang word translatable as “babe”. Particularly “gasolina”, that literally “gasoline”, here means alcohol, most likely rum, or maybe also drugs in general.

    Bwahahahahahaha!

What a funny, funny post, nonnie! You made my day!

    Bwahahahahahaha!

  4. you mean you aren’t shaking in your boots, nightowl? 😯

  5. nightowl724

That’s exactly what I mean, nons – unless you count the shaking from laughter! This is great. If CU had tripped and fallen in the dairy aisle in that supermarket, he couldn’t have been covered with more egg on his face than you delivered tonight!

  6. 😆 think i will sit here and just enjoy the picture in my mind of capt u face down in a gallon of cottage cheese surrounded by broken eggshells.

  7. nightowl724

OK, I’m game. I’ll do the same. Think of it as both of us looking at the moon at the same time. Con amore, jan. 😆

This is some scarey stuff. What demographic is the Captain going after here? The majority of highschool kids aren’t even 18, yet. There’s no fool like an old fool.

  9. fotc,
he must have the worst staff in the world (and by staff, i am referring to people, not anything withered and gross). there is a diary over at the big orange that explains that it is against arizona law to campaign in schools. plus, i copied the charitable version of the song. the diary over there explains that gasolina is slang for semen. i guess capt underpants and the rethug party now endorse a high school kid getting his dinky stinky.

nonnie – that is a really beautiful use of the cheesy thumbelina cover!

this daddy yankee guy – he’s been in the news . . .

  11. thanks, jenn!
i wracked my brain trying to think of a movie title that had a word ending with ‘ina’ or something close. finally, thumbelina popped into my mind.
secret–i used to love faerie tale theatre! 🙂

Daddy Yankee? I guess I’m really out of touch.

You’ll pardon me for not making it through reading through the whole lyrics. I tried, I really did but I think I blew a gasket.

If Dandy Yankee took some time to study politics, the economics of Puerto Rico and the reasons why Puerto Ricans have less millionaires he would learn the McCain family pay lobbists to impose an embargo on Puerto Rican Beer. There is an unofficial embargo on the exportation of Medalla and Tesoro Beer made in Puerto Rico. The McCain’s made sure the competition is prevented and only they can a mass great wealth in the beer distribution industry.

  14. jeb,
i never heard of him either. i never heard of reggaeton for that matter. i have heard of arizona though! that should count for something!

  15. hi jane!
welcome to the raisin! 😀 thanks for that bit of information. all these instances of capt underpants and friends enriching themselves at the expense of the unwashed masses needs to be documented and dispersed everywhere. people keep voting against their own interests, and i will never understand why. if it was to benefit the greater good, i could see that, but it is never the case with the rethugs. they only benefit themselves and their rich friends.
hope you will stop by and comment again, jane. i like to hear what people are thinking in different parts of the country and the world.
