Put the shovel down, that hole is deep enough!

From The Carpetbagger Report:

In late May, John McCain announced his belief that U.S. troops in Iraq “have drawn down to pre-surge levels.” That was clearly not the case. But instead of simply acknowledging the error, the McCain campaign insisted the senator was actually right, just so long as we overlook “the tense of the verb.”

…snip…

Here we are, two months later, and in a dramatic error, McCain told Katie Couric that it’s “just a matter of history” that Bush’s “surge” policy “began the Anbar awakening.” That, of course, is backwards. But instead of simply acknowledging the error and correcting the record, McCain has decided to parse the meaning of the word “surge.”

Camp Pain Poser

Hey, kids! Have you seen the new Captain Underpants campaign poster? Go on over to Democratic Underground and take a look. Go ahead, I’ll wait. Didja see it? Captain Underpants all ethereal and majestic looking (not to mention about 30 years younger! 😆 ). Well, I unearthed the poster before it was totally airbrushed…

From the Philadelphia Daily News:

EVERY MORNING now, John McCain gets out of bed on the wrong side of history. No wonder he’s in a foul mood.

Roberta’s Big Boy!

From Politico:

Trying to avoid being portrayed as a whiney spoilsport, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) broke with his advisers Tuesday and told Katie Couric of CBS News that news coverage of the presidential campaign has been fair and even “fun to watch.”

…snip…

As part of an increasing effort by major news organizations to balance their coverage after charges they were coddling Obama, Couric interviewed McCain from Amman, Jordan, where she is anchoring the “CBS Evening News” as part of the remarkable road show following the freshman senator through the Middle East and Europe.

Asked whether he believes he’d had unfair media coverage, McCain replied: “I don’t think so. I think …it is what it is. I’m a big boy. And I’m enjoying every minute of the campaigning. And I’m certainly not complaining. And, in fact, I think it’s fun to watch.”

Tempest in a C-Cup

From the Los Angeles Times:

WASHINGTON — Federal judges today tossed out the $550,000 fine levied against CBS Corp. after Janet Jackson’s breast was briefly bared during the 2004 Super Bowl halftime show, ruling that the Federal Communications Commission “acted arbitrarily and capriciously” in penalizing the network for a “fleeting image of nudity.”

The decision is another blow to the aggressive indecency policy the FCC has adopted and enforced under chairman Kevin J. Martin and throws the agency’s indecency enforcement into further disarray.

Hell, kids, Janet’s booby exposure is nothing compared to what I think will occur at the presidential debates…

Of course, besides keeping you kids abreast of what is going on, this is all just an excuse to repost the song parody I wrote right after Nipplegate occurred. Yeah, I know, I’m just milking this for all it is worth.

It Strikes Me, Sir, That You Have No Balls!

From The Trail at The Washington Post:

Sen. John McCain took in a New York Yankees game today with his friend and onetime primary rival, Rudolph Giuliani, and it turned out that Hizzoner, and not the presumptive GOP presidential nominee, drew the bulk of the crowd’s attention.

Lost Horizon

From the Baltimore Sun:
WASHINGTON – President Bush and Iraq’s prime minister have agreed to set a “general time horizon” for bringing more U.S. troops home from the war, a dramatic shift from the administration’s ironclad unwillingness to talk about any kind of deadline or timetable.

The announcement yesterday put Bush in the position of offering to talk with Iraqi leaders about a politically charged issue that he has adamantly refused to discuss with the Democratic-led Congress at home. It could also complicate the presidential campaign arguments of Republican John McCain and Democrat Barack Obama, who have staked out starkly opposing stands on the unpopular war.
