Miguel Acero

From The Wonk Room at THINK PROGRESS:

Today, the Republican National Committee (RNC) released a statement from Chairman Michael Steele announcing the release of a new video in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. However, though the press release emphasizes the Republican Party’s “commitment to the Hispanic community,” apparently that commitment does not include hiring a qualified Spanish translator. The Spanish translation of Steele’s statement is riddled with embarrassing typos and errors.

The substance of the accompanying video isn’t much better. Its main focus is on highlighting the accomplishments of conservative Latinos and completely ignores renowned Latino leaders like civil rights activists César Chávez and Dolores Huerta, and completely sidesteps the recent confirmation of Puerto Rican Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor.

The video doesn’t even acknowledge one of the Republican Party’s most respected leader, former Sen. Mel Martinez (R-FL) who resigned from his post as RNC chairman in 2007 in response to his party’s anti-immigrant views.

Now hold on, according to me my anonymous sources inside the RNC, Chairman Steele is doing his damnedest to reach out to Hispanics. To prove it, get a load of these pics forwarded to me. They’re going to be used in new RNC ads.  Tell me what red-blooded Latino will be able to resist the urge to run down to the Voters Registration office to change his/her affiliation to R after seeing this…

It’s been said that the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. While that may be a cheaper way of doing cardiac surgery under the Rethuglican health care reform non-plan, it’s also another strategery for grabbing Hispanic voters.

Along with food, music is another way of making inroads, and Miguel knows how to turn the beat around! He loves to hear percussion.

Of course, Miguel is not alone in his quest. He’s getting some help from his friends, like Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Newt Gingrich, and Tom Tancredo. Even Independent my ass Lou Dobbs is pitching in!

To me, however, the reaching out really started at CPAC last February when Michelle Batshit Bachmann cheered Miguel with You be da hombre! You be da hombre!

And that’s no bull!

(Check out the bowtie, pinstripes, and pocket hanky Miguel is wearing in the video! 😆 )

  1. Oh, look, it’s Michele Bachmann as Carmen!

  2. The Steele and Bachmann shot is nothing short of genius.

Here’s the Spanish version of Steele’s press release:

El republicanos salutee los hispanicos famosos.
Los people like Trini Lopez, Charro, Senor Wences y mucho mas estan mucho importante to los hispanicos en el mundo.
El republicanos likee los hispanicos mucho and quero hispanico republicanos en el party de nosotros.

    • that was my favorite one, too, zippy. i like any poster where i can sneak in kool-aid. 🙂

my neighbors are columbian, and they will be very proud of me for being able to read and understand the press release. i guess living in south floriduhhhh and hearing all the spanish spoken around me has seeped into my brain through osmosis, because that press release wasn’t too mucho difficulto por me to deciphero. 😉

  3. hands down – between the pictures and KZ’s press release – i have NEVER laughed so hard ever.

while i love bachmann and steele — the shot of steele as the taco bell chihuahua and the background pictures on the shot with beck maybe the funniest thing ever on the web!

    • thanks dcAp!
it makes me happy if my crap makes people laugh. the ‘mahvelous’ pic is actually the second version. i was just farting around with pics, having a good time. then i started looking for specific articles to cut and paste, so at the last minute i had to change the cast in the background to match the text. i usually do it the other way around–decide on the article, then make the pic. i have no idea why i did it bass ackwards this time. i’ll email you the original, and if you ever want to use it, you’re welcome to do so. maybe i’ll use it here, too, when i have nothing else to post.

  4. That is hil-fecking-arious! Brilliant!

    • hello fran,
      welcome to the raisin! 😀

at first, i thought you were the fran from ramblings, but i must be spending too much time here, because i realized your little gravatar was not the one i usually see.

i always see your comments over at zippy’s and dcap’s blogs (and probably others), and i’m so happy you dropped in over here. hope to see you again. and thank you for the kind words! 🙂

      • Hi Nonnie, no it is me the Fran you see at Dcap’s and KZ’s. Dcap and I are long-time real life friends held each other’s hands and jumped into the blogpool around the same time… although we landed in very different places.

Your blog is hysterical. I have dropped by before when pointed here. To say you are funny would be an understatement of great proportion.

        • fran, i know your name and your avatar very well. now i recall that you got to actually see dcAp’s new kitchen!

you’re always welcome over here. just relax and put your feet up. the cabana boy should be by shortly with the drinks. 😉

  5. LOL–love the picture of Micheal Steele, Taco Bell chihuahua. Quite disturbing…
