Bananas Repeal

At a briefing with conservative bloggers held at the Heritage Foundation today, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) articulated “the way forward for conservatives.” Bachmann’s strategy consisted of defeating Democrats in 2010, defunding the left and passing a series of “repealer” bills:

BACHMANN: We have to defund the left. And this is great. Gallup came out with a poll, I think last week or the week before, that said the American people believe that Congress wastes 50 percent — 50 cents or 50 percent of every dollar it spends. God love the American people. They get it. They understand the truth that actually there’s huge waste. So we defund that but then the third thing that we do, which you’re getting into with economic development, is we have to after we defund the left, we pass repealer bill after repealer bill after repealler bill. Because there’s a huge machinery that’s been built up in this town. And we have to just repeal it. And we have to campaign on that to the American people. That is a hugely winning message right now with the American people.

Bachmann isn’t the first conservative member of Congress to express a desire to “repeal” legislation passed under Obama if Republicans take back control of Congress again. In August, Rep. Joe Barton (R-TX) said “we’ll repeal” health care reform if it passes. Rep. Tom Price (R-GA) said at the Values Voter Summit last month that he dreams of telling President Obama in 2010, “we need to repeal the disaster and the tyranny that you passed last session.”

  1. Check it out, three Banana Republicans who want to turn this country into a Banana Republic–and I don’t mean the clothing store!

    • and i hope all three of them slip on a banana repeal! 😉

      • Remember you asked me to give you a book report on “The Family”? It turns out that the early history of The Family, back when it was The Fellowship, was that it started as an anti-labor, pro-ownership prayer group in the Pacific Northwest during the 1930s. One of the candidates they backed actually ran on and governed on “A Repeal a Day” of the New Deal legislation passed by the previous Governor of Washington state. So the
banana repeal” is not a completely idle threat; it’s been done before.

        • veddy interesting, neon vincent. i had no idea the family went back that far. there really hasn’t been any new ideas in the rethuglican party in 60+ years. 🙄

          • Not really. Trying to break down the barrier between Church and State is an old staple of theirs. Senators who were in The Fellowship were the ones to add “In G-d We Trust” to the currency and “Under G-d” to the Pledge of Allegiance during the Cold War.

      • Friend of the court

“bannanna repeal”, you rock, nonnie. I didn’t think Obama had passed any tyranny yet. I must be a low information voter.

  2. We can’t be having people getting health care!
They need to fund wars, and keep the military industrial complex up & running- those are useful investments that the people really love. Oh & raises for Congress.

Funding frivolous things like education, health care, infrastructure, and that socialist medicare program is pork barrel spending. Wasteful & useless!

Bachmann is a real piece of work.
    How can MN stand her?

Michele Bachmann is a disgrace to the USA, MN, and the 6th. If you’re interested in getting rid of Bachmann, support democratic candidate Dr. Maureen Reed! You can learn more about Maureen, and donate, at:

  4. I must be sleepy. I read that as Michelle Malkin at first, and I was ready to tear into her. Then I realized it was the other Michele and it dawned on me–they are virtually interchangible.
Sure, one made her debut by providing happy endings in a Manila massage parlor and the other on her knees in a Minnesota truck stop, otherwise they are the same.

  5. I’d like to repeal her face from her head.
