Republican members of the Congressional Anti-Terrorism Caucus said the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) have tried to plant “spies” within key national-security committees in order to shape legislative policy.
Reps. Sue Myrick (R-N.C.), John Shadegg (R-Ariz.), Paul Broun (R-Ga.) and Trent Franks (R-Ariz.), citing the book Muslim Mafia: Inside the Secret Underworld that’s Conspiring to Islamize America, called for the House sergeant at arms to investigate whether CAIR had been successful in placing interns on key panels. The lawmakers are specifically focused on the House Homeland Security Committee, Intelligence Committee and Judiciary Committee.
“If an organization is connected to or supports terrorists [and] is running influence operations or planting spies in key national security-related offices, I think this needs to be made known,” said Broun, who sits on the Homeland Security Committee. “So I join my colleagues here today in calling for action.”
But the Office of the House sergeant at arms said that it has received no such request from any of the four Republicans and declined to speculate on how a request of that nature would be addressed.

The book, which was written by P. David Gaubatz and Paul Sperry with a foreword by Myrick, is scheduled to be released on Thursday.
A representative of CAIR called the accusations unfounded and worried that they would tarnish the improving relations between Muslim and non-Muslim Americans.
“God forbid American Muslims take part in the political process and exercise their rights,” said Ibrahim Hooper, a CAIR spokesman, in a telephone interview.

While the Republicans said they did not know of specific legislation that CAIR had affected, Franks, a Judiciary Committee member, said he wouldn’t be surprised if it was trying to amend the Patriot Act.

The GOP accusations come as Congress is considering reauthorizing expiring provisions in the Patriot Act, which has been attacked by critics on both the left and the right.
The Republicans also called on the IRS to launch a full investigation into CAIR’s lobbying activities, “to judge if they are in violation of their federal nonprofit status.”
Hooper said that CAIR is in full federal compliance with its status as a 501(c)3 nonprofit group, and that the group devotes less in terms of resources than the maximum legal limit allowed.

Gaubatz, the co-author of Muslim Mafia, could not be reached at press time. On his website, daveg.us, he asks supporters for money to “legally destroy CAIR.”
“CAIR will use their routine and expected ‘smear’ campaign to discredit me,” Gaubatz wrote on Wednesday morning. “It will not work. I have one foot on CAIR. I tell the truth. They simply lie and we have the proof.
“Please support me in these eforts [sic] to help shut this terror supporting organization down. donate all weekend. We need to raise $25,000 to put more research in the field and to bring more intelligence agianst [sic] them … If you want to protect your children and America, then help me now.”
So lemme get this straight. The way to keep everyone safe from the scary Muslims is to give money to this asswipe who can’t spell or punctuate correctly?
[Myrick] said the Justice Department identified CAIR as an “un-indicted co-conspirator” in the Holy Land Foundation case in Dallas, which concluded with the sentencing of the two founders of the foundation to life in prison for funneling $12 million to Hamas, which the U.S. has labeled a terrorist organization.
“We need to know that information so that we can discern whether we want to take interns associated with that group into our office,” said Myrick.
Earlier this year, the FBI cut off communication with CAIR out of concern that the group had ties with Hamas.
Hooper said that CAIR welcomed the scrutiny from the Republican lawmakers and that he was disappointed to see them associate with Gaubatz, whom he called a “hate-monger.”
“It’s a shame to see elected officials take part in a smear campaign based on bigotry,” Hooper said.

Long before “Muslim Mafia” was published several members of Congress had warned of CAIR’s disturbing origins. One of the first consistent and fearless critics of CAIR has been Democrat Senator Charles Schumer who said: “We know [CAIR] has ties to terrorism…intimate links with Hamas.” Senator Schumer made these statements during a September 2003 Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Terrorism, Technology and Homeland Security where the evidence against CAIR was laid out in detail. CAIR Executive Director Nihad Awad was invited to testify at this gathering, but chose to avoid the meeting and instead submitted a crude and absurd written statement listing CAIR’s “accomplishments” and childishly attacking critics.
Senator Schumer continues to give unapologetic support in efforts to investigate and exclude CAIR from involvement in government programs, including “training” the FBI. In February of 2009, Senator Schumer joined Senators Kyl and Coburn in contacting the FBI to state their support for the FBI severing ties to CAIR saying “We certainly support that action…”
Democrat Senator Barbara Boxer has also called out CAIR. She recalled an award to CAIR’s Basim Elkarra when she researched and learned of his involvement with CAIR and CAIR’s ties to Hamas. In addition to recalling the award, Senator Boxer also told CAIR to remove her statement endorsing CAIR from their web site. CAIR blasted Senator Boxer saying her actions were rooted in “Islamophobia.” Senator Boxer made clear her feelings about CAIR when she said: “To praise [CAIR] because they haven’t been indicted is like somebody saying, ‘I’m not a crook'”
let me ask you something. how long did it take to write this book? was it churned out in a week? a month? if so, then it wasn’t very well researched or thought out. if it took longer, let’s say 6 months or a year, then why weren’t the authorities notified immediately, if the entire country was under threat (of coffee being made by muslims in the capitol building 😯 ). is it strictly a coincidence that the 4 louseketeers had a press conference days before the book is to be released? this is just bullshit. cair is the new acorn. the authors of the book are bigoted assholes, and the 4 louseketeers are bigger assholes for buying this shit and perpetuating it.

You can make a game of it for sure, but the fact remains that the FBI has straight up evidence that CAIR is a creation of Hamas, (Yup, Hamas is bad) and anyone associated with CAIR in the halls of our government is a security concern.

the article also says there still has not been a formal request for an investigation by the sergeant-at-arms or the justice department. there is a terrorist group infiltrating congress, and the louseketeers still haven’t made a formal request?
You still haven’t responded to the fact that several prominent Democrats know of CAIR’s ties to Hamas and have asked the FBI to keep investigating. That includes the Democrat members of the Anti-Terrorism Caucus which has over 120 members and is co-chaired by 2 Democrats.

Another tidbit from “The Family”–Shadegg’s father was Barry Goldwater’s campaign manager for his first two senate campaigns and leader of the Draft Goldwater committee in 1964. Shadegg senior makes a couple of cameos during the parts about WWII and the early part of the Cold War. Yes, he’s another member of The Family back when it was “The Fellowship.” I haven’t found out yet if his son has followed in his father’s footsteps and joined The Family.

A majority in each the House & Senate – and all they can do is brawl.
The only things they agree upon are war funding, and raises for themselves. Oh & taking huge sums of cash from special interest lobbies.
