The Ass-burns Reloaded

The new television season will be starting pretty soon, and though some shows are just warmed-up remakes of former crap and receive really lousy reviews, it seems the cast just refuses to go away!

From The Raw Story:

Vice President Dick Cheney decided to speak out after learning that President Barack Obama might open prosecutions of former Bush Administration officials, his daughter disclosed Thursday.

Elizabeth Cheney told Fox News’ Sean Hannity that her father decided to speak out after he learned there was a possibility of legal action.

Creepier by the Dozen

From The New York Times:

WASHINGTON — A coalition of left-wing advocacy groups filed legal ethics complaints on Monday against 12 former Bush administration lawyers, including three United States attorneys general, whom the groups accuse of helping to justify torture.

The coalition, called Velvet Revolution, asked the bar associations in four states and the District of Columbia to disbar the lawyers, saying their actions violated the rules of professional responsibility by approving interrogation methods, including waterboarding, that constituted illegal torture.

L’Austin Space

From The Dallas Morning News:

A group of Republican women supporting Kay Bailey Hutchison is demanding an apology from the Rick Perry campaign for remarks that they say disparage women. In a letter to the Perry camp, the group accuses adviser Dave Carney of likening the Republican senator’s campaign to a “whorehouse.”

Waiting for Joe Barton to say something smart? Don’t hold your breath!

From mother nature network:

It’s hard to get more ridiculous than this- GOP Congressman Joe Barton (Texas, ExxonMobil) […] went on C-SPAN and said we shouldn’t be worried about CO2 because it’s “not hazardous to your health” and it’s “natural”. He said:

I’m creating it as I talk to you. It’s in your Coca-Cola, your Dr. Pepper and your Perrier water. It’s necessary for human life. It’s odorless, colorless, tasteless, doesn’t cause cancer, doesn’t cause asthma. There’s nobody that’s ever been admitted to a hospital because of CO2 poisoning.

Nuts and Dolts

From Talking Points Memo:

Rep. Michele Bachmann appeared last week on the right-wing talk radio show of Jan Markell, where she spoke out forcefully against the Obama Administration for not wanting to go after foreign terrorists — and for targeting conservatives through the Department of Homeland Security’s report on right-wing extremists:

It isn’t that they don’t want to use the word ‘terrorism,’ it’s who they’re using this word against,” said Bachmann. “And as you had stated correctly, in this report — which I have read, it’s about a nine-page report I believe, if I recall correctly — the right-wing extremists report, they include people who believe in End-Time prophecies, pro-life. It is appalling the people that they named.

She later warned: “People need to realize that truly, our freedoms are more at risk than they have been at any other time in recent history.”

MoDo Hits a New Low

From POLITICO:

A TPMCafe blogger charged plagiarism earlier after picking up on a striking similarity between a passage in Maureen Dowd’s column today and a recent post by TPM editor Josh Marshall.

Dowd: “More and more the timeline is raising the question of why, if the torture was to prevent terrorist attacks, it seemed to happen mainly during the period when the Bush crowd was looking for what was essentially political information to justify the invasion of Iraq.”

Marshall: “More and more the timeline is raising the question of why, if the torture was to prevent terrorist attacks, it seemed to happen mainly during the period when we were looking for what was essentially political information to justify the invasion of Iraq.”

😯 How did that happen? After some digging, your intrepid reporter (that would be me) has cracked the case! Sockpuppet!!

Holier than Thou

From CBS News:

President Barack Obama’s planned commencement address at Notre Dame has prompted outrage from students and activists upset that the Catholic university has invited a pro-choice politician to its campus. The controversy has generated headlines and with them consistent debate in the media about whether or not the president should show up at all.

But the situation is less controversial than it may seem from all the chatter over the past few weeks. Indeed, it seems that the most vocal opponents of the president’s visit only represent a small minority of the college community.
