From Courthouse News Service:
COLUMBIA, S.C. (CN) – South Carolina First Lady Jenny Sanford has filed for divorce, 7 months after her husband confessed to an affair with an Argentine mistress, and just days after a state House judiciary panel voted to censure, but not impeach, her husband, Gov. Mark Sanford.
Mrs. Sanford said in a statement, “As so many of us know, the dissolution of any marriage is a sad and painful process. Because Mark and I are public figures, we have naturally had less privacy with which to deal with our difficulties than do other couples. Indeed, I know it will soon become known, so I choose to release this brief notice that I am now filing for divorce.”
Poor Jenny, I bet she loves her privacy, especially when it comes to really personal things like this. And I bet she’ll tell us all about it in that book she’s writing about her husband’s affair.

Continuing our story from yesterday, in which Henry Brown, Jr. saves Christmas, we now know from whom he saved it.
Where else, but from Fox News:
A Republican lawmaker with a mission to save Christmas is aiming his latest salvo at President and first lady [sic] Obama, who’ve followed in a recent tradition to eliminate the mention of Christmas in the White House holiday cards.
The card selected by the Obamas announces: “Season’s Greetings.” Inside, it reads: “May your family have a joyous holiday season and a new year blessed with hope and happiness.”
Seasons Greetings? A joyous holiday season? A new year blessed with hope and happiness? 😯 They really are socialist Marxist anarchist Communist terrorist Muslims!!!
But Rep. Henry Brown, R-S.C., said abandoning Christmas at Christmas is just plain wrong. On Tuesday, he introduced a resolution calling for the protection of the sanctity of Christmas. So far, 44 lawmakers, Democrat and Republican [1 Democrat, to be exact], have co-signed the bill.
“I believe that sending a Christmas card without referencing a holiday and its purpose limits the Christmas celebration in favor of a more ‘politically correct’ holiday,” Brown told Fox News Radio on Thursday.

From POLITICAL HOTSHEET at CBS NEWS:
The annual cultural debate over Christmas has come to Congress.
South Carolina Rep. Henry Brown, Jr. and 18 of his fellow House Republicans [OOPS! It was 17 Rethugs and 1 Democrat] this week introduced Resolution 951, which makes it clear that Christmas should not be watered down for political correctness.

I was wondering, too.
Popeye the Sailor Man, his bulging forearms, and his strength-fortifying can of spinach can be seen on Google’s home page today, doing fans of cartoon art a big favor. Today is the birthday of Popeye creator E.C. Segar, born 115 years ago.
Segar was a newspaper cartoonist, and Popeye was first seen in Segar’s comic strip “Thimble Theater,” starring the sailor, his rail-thin girlfriend Olive Oyl, her brother Castor Oyl, and, eventually, their hamburger-munching pal Wimpy, and Popeye’s rival for Olive, the hulking Bluto.
Oh, okay. Well, kids, this brought to mind a diary I published over at American Street back on February 13, 2008. I thought I’d dust it off for our very own tribute to the Sailor Man. Happy birthday, E.C. Segar, wherever you are. Here’s the diary:
Hi kids! As election fever takes over every conversation, every bullshit-laden package of talking heads trying to sound intelligent news show, and every blog, I thought we should take a minute and remember what we will thankfully be leaving behind. First, though, a tip of the hat to the lovely and talented Friend of the Court for suggesting the theme for this crappy diary humble submission.
Now back to business. We all know that this horrendous era will forever be known as the Chimpy Bush Administration, after this guy….
…but we all know who has the real power and is calling all the shots. It’s this guy…

Kids, this is so exciting! Put on your tuxes and gowns. We’re going to a movie premiere!
One of my best blog buddies, Distributorcap, gave me a present for the 1,000 postiversary of the Raisin. He sent it to me, and knowing I was unable to post it here without shelling out 60 bucks for an upgrade, he went to the trouble of posting it to Youtube so I could share it with all the Raisinettes. He had to change the song to get through the Youtube customs office, and it’s not as sharp as the wonderful original he sent me, but I love it, and I hope you will, too. Before we get to the film, though, let’s check out the activity at the premiere.
From The Advocate:
U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu said Friday that she is not dwelling on Gov. Bobby Jindal’s silence on the derogatory remarks leveled against her by some of his supporters.
Jindal initially publicly defended Landrieu, D-La., but that changed after conservative heavyweights began bashing her for money she got for Louisiana before voting on the controversial health-care bill.
The governor, a Republican, has refused to field media questions about whether it was inappropriate for conservatives to characterize Landrieu as a prostitute.

From THINK PROGRESS (December 4, 2009):
Last night, Fox News host Glenn Beck premiered his new live show based on his book The Christmas Sweater, which was simulcast to hundreds of movie theaters across the country. Sponsor Fathom Events called it a “once in a lifetime event,” during which “Glenn will tell you about the real life events that inspired him to write” the book, play clips from his 2008 national tour, and “share stories of the overwhelming response he received.” Despite heavy promotion on Beck’s radio and TV shows, and in-theater trailers, ticket sales were weak in major cities: Beck sold only 17 tickets in Boston, […]
