Simon Says: “Mr. Beck, you are a con man”

From THINK PROGRESS :

In a Washington Post op-ed last month, Simon Greer — the president and CEO of Jewish Funds for Justice, an organization that helps people achieve social and economic security by investing in healthy neighborhoods — bluntly rebuked Glenn Beck for his war against social justice.

“Mr. Beck, you are a con man and America is not buying it,” Greer wrote. “When churches, synagogues, mosques, and other houses of worship across this country advocate for social justice, advocate for the common good, advocate for America, they, and we, walk in God’s path.”

Yesterday on his radio station, Beck responded the only way he knows how — with hyperbolic, extreme rhetoric referencing Nazi imagery. Beck said that Greer’s advocacy for the common good and social justice “leads to death camps.” “A Jew, of all people, should know that,” Beck added. “This is exactly the kind of talk that led to the death camps in Germany.”

Make Room for Daddy

From FIRST READ at MSNBC:

Ron Paul, father not only of Senate candidate Rand Paul (R-KY) but also of Ron Paul Nation, leaps to his son’s defense in an e-mail fundraising solicitation.

Paul, who was dismissed by the establishment during his 2008 White House bid, showed a prowess for raising money. And he’s trying to go back to the well for Rand.

Oldfartisanship

From 44 at The Washington Post:

The Senate turned back an effort by Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) Thursday to put 6,000 more security troops on the Mexican border, as Democrats instead suggested that President Obama’s proposal for an additional deployment of a temporary, 1,200-person force was sufficient for now.

The McCain measure, which needed 60 votes to be considered approved, fell short on a 51-46 vote as part of the Senate’s broader consideration of a $59 billion spending bill that funds the troop surge into Afghanistan and other emergency measures. The border-security battle has become the most politically contentious issue surrounding what has otherwise become a routine passage of the war supplemental bill.

Oh what a tangled web they weave, just how dumb, you won’t believe!

From Dana Milbank at The Washington Post:

Republicans want to take over the House in the fall, but there’s a problem: They don’t have an agenda.

So on Tuesday, they set out to resolve that shortcoming. They announced that they would solicit suggestions on the Internet, then have members of the public give the ideas a thumbs-up or a thumbs-down. Call it the “Dancing With the Stars” model of public policy.

Yertle to Little Randy: STFU!

From Top of the Ticket at the Los Angeles Times:

The continuing implosion, better known as Rand Paul’s post primary campaign, will be taking a break from self-immolation it appears.Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is telling fellow Kentuckian Paul to shut his pie hole.

“I think he’s said quite enough for the time being in terms of national press coverage,” McConnell told CNN’s John King on Tuesday.

I Should Say Stupid Stuff to Reporters? Gotcha!

From YAHOO! NEWS:

Sarah Palin still bristles when talking about her initial experience with the national media. After John McCain named her to the 2008 presidential ticket, political reporters understandably had a few questions for a little-known candidate seeking the vice presidency. More than a year after stumbling in a series of interviews with Katie Couric, Palin was still talking of her irritation with the anchor’s innocuous question about what she reads.

On this week’s “Fox News Sunday,” Palin took another swing at the media, comparing what she considers the unfair media treatment of herself during the fall 2008 campaign with the scrutiny that Kentucky Republican Rand Paul has endured since criticizing part of the Civil Rights Act on NPR and on MSNBC’s “Rachel Maddow Show” last week.

Wash Colors Separately

From the New York DAILY NEWS:

WASHINGTON – Kentucky GOP Senate nominee Rand Paul got slapped down yesterday over his remarks on civil rights – by his own party’s leaders.

“I believe … his philosophy is misplaced in these times,” Michael Steele, chairman of the Republican National Committee, told “Fox News Sunday.”

“I don’t think it’s where the country is right now,” Steele said.

Wingnuts and Dolts

From FIREDOGLAKE:

The benefit of this Rand Paul escapade is that his sincerely held views are on full display, and thus the ideology of the “liberty” movement gets a serious airing for the first time. But it’s not like anyone should be surprised by these views. Paul’s father said almost verbatim the same thing on Meet the Press in 2007. He wasn’t considered “serious” by the traditional media at the time. But now that there are tea party beat writers and they’re the newest rage in Washington, this gets exposure.
