Welcome to the 1st Semi-Regular Macaca Awards!  I’ll borrow the introduction from my collaborator, the handsome and talented Tengrain of Mock, Paper, Scissors:

It seems so long ago that George Allen uttered the words that moved a generation (and sank his political career), and forever seared the word Macaca into our collective brain.
And so we honor all that is appalling in American Politics with the First Semi-Regular Macaca Awards.

Nightly, starting tomorrow night and concluding on Election Eve, you will be able to vote for the biggest Macaca in different categories. Nonnie and Tengrain will announce the winners on Election Eve, so this is democracy in action! Everyone is eligible to vote, no Arizonastan Juan Crow laws here, fellow citizens!

James Inhofe Has Crystal Balls!

Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-OK), right-wing conspiracy theorist and oil-industry apologist, has promised that Republicans are “certainties” to win at least the ten seats necessary to regain control of the U.S. Senate on November 2. In an interview while stumping for Colorado U.S. Senate candidate Ken Buck on Thursday, Inhofe told the National Review Online that extremist candidates such as Buck, John Raese (WV), Dino Rossi (WA), Pat Toomey (PA), and Carly Fiorina (CA) are guaranteed to win. Inhofe even said that Tea Party favorite Christine O’Donnell (DE) has a shot:

Juan Williams, who was fired from his job at NPR after comments he made on Fox News’ “The O’Reilly Factor” this week regarding Muslims, fired back at the radio station on Friday while guest hosting “The O’Reilly Factor.”

“My comments about my feelings supposedly crossed this line, some line, somewhere. That crossed the line?” Williams said.

LAS VEGAS, Oct 22 (Reuters) – President Barack Obama, fighting to keep Democrats in control of the U.S. Senate, accused Republicans on Friday of peddling discredited “snake oil ideas” about the U.S. economy.

On a five-day sprint through western states, he also entered the highest profile race of the Nov. 2 congressional elections — a contest between Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid and Republican Tea Party favorite Sharron Angle.
