Mexicans crossing the border with mules! No, not burros, shoes!

From the NORTH COUNTY TIMES:

Rep. Brian Bilbray, R-Solana Beach, was criticized this week by civil and immigrant rights groups for saying that law enforcement professionals could spot illegal immigrants by the way they dress.

On Wednesday, Bilbray was a guest on the MSNBC TV show “Hardball” with Chris Matthews. He was asked his opinion of an Arizona bill that would require local police to question people about their immigration status if there was reason to suspect they were in the country illegally.

Why did my doctor just take my temperature with a meat thermometer?

From the NEVADA APPEAL:

RENO — U.S. Senate candidate Sue Lowden said Thursday that Harry Reid is trying to make her look bad over remarks suggesting a return to the barter system with doctors.

“Harry Reid is trying to change the subject from his 2,700 pages of government-run health care,” she said after a breakfast meeting in Reno.

Lowden became a top story nationwide last week after Democratic Party figures, cable news shows, bloggers and even Jay Leno ridiculed her so-called “Chickens for Checkups” plan.

Chicken Wingnut

From THE HUFFINGTON POST:

Sue Lowden, a Republican candidate challenging Majority Leader Harry Reid for his Nevada Senate seat is refusing to back down from an earlier suggestion that America consider a medical barter system as an alternative to current health care solutions.

On Monday Lowden took the idea one step further.

“Before we all started having health care, in the olden days, our grandparents, they would bring a chicken to the doctor,” Lowden told a local news station. “They would say I’ll paint your house.”

If we could only breed chickens who are delicious and who could paint houses, that would be perfect!

Throwing Charlie Under the Tea Party Express Bus

From The New York Times:

Two years after he was shunned by Gov. Charlie Crist of Florida during that state’s Republican presidential primary, former Gov. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts endorsed Marco Rubio, Mr. Crist’s opponent in Florida’s Republican Senate primary, on Saturday.

…snip…

Mr. Romney’s decision to support Mr. Rubio comes after Mr. Crist helped end Mr. Romney’s White House aspirations by endorsing a rival, Senator John McCain of Arizona, in the 2008 race for the Republican presidential nomination.

Mr. Romney is the third major Republican presidential candidate from the 2008 race to endorse Mr. Rubio, joining former Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani of New York and former Gov. Mike Huckabee of Arkansas. Mr. Giuliani, who endorsed Mr. Rubio earlier this month, was also counting on a Florida victory in the 2008 campaign and now says that Mr. Crist backed out of a promised endorsement.

Batshit Bachmann Gets Even Batshittier!

From THINK PROGRESS :

On Friday, former President Bill Clinton gave a speech commemorating the 15th anniversary of the tragic Oklahoma City bombing, drawing disturbing parallels between that incident and the current atmosphere of right-wing, anti-government hatred. He warned public officials and members of the media to be responsible with their rhetoric, since it could fall on the ears of someone as disturbed as Timothy McVeigh:

But what we learned from Oklahoma City is not that we should gag each other or we should reduce our passion for the positions that we hold, but the words we use really do matter because there are — there’s this vast echo chamber, and they go across space, and they fall on the serious and the delirious alike. They fall on the connected and the unhinged alike. And I am not trying to muzzle anybody, but one of the things that the conservatives have always brought to the table in America is that no law can replace personal responsibility. And the more power you have, and the more influence you have, the more responsibility you have.

Yesterday in a speech to the Chicago Tea Party Patriots, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) claimed that Clinton was trying to “take [her] out.”

Because no matter what the subject, you must be talking about Batshit Bachmann.

I bet he’ll insist he’s not really Captain Underpants either!

From the Washington Wire at THE WALL STREET JOURNAL:

Sen. John McCain, who was mocked for saying recently that he never considered himself a maverick, when he had repeatedly said just that, sort of took it back on Sunday.

“What I was saying was that I have considered myself a person who is a fighter,” McCain told “Fox News Sunday.” “I wouldn’t be around today if I wasn’t a fighter. I fight for the things that I believe in, and sometimes that’s called a maverick. Sometimes that’s called a partisan. And people can draw their own conclusions.”

Let Us Be Frank. Or Maybe Just Talk Like Him!

From Robert Shrum at THE WEEK (April 15,2010):

Months of death panel promoting, senior citizen deceiving, and abortion mongering have left Republicans immune to facts. Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell has donned his Frank Luntz mask (maybe McConnell could borrow the pollster’s toupee too), lifting wholesale Luntz’s language designed to mislead the public about financial reform. Playing dummy to Luntz’s ventriloquist, McConnell now shamelessly characterizes the bill that would avert future bailouts on Wall Street as a license for endless bailouts on Wall Street.
