More Baloney in Old Arizony

From the Arizona Daily Star:

PHOENIX – A fight is developing over the unilateral decision by Gov. Jan Brewer to cancel next month’s meeting of 10 border governors, which had been scheduled for Arizona.

The governors of two other U.S. states said they want the annual meeting to go on, but not in Arizona. Aides to both Republican Arnold Schwarzenegger and Democrat Bill Richardson said the conferences are too important to be disrupted by political fallout from Arizona’s new law aimed at illegal immigrants.

Texas Gov. Rick Perry said through a press aide that he would be willing to attend a relocated border governors conference.

A Crockwork Orange

A few months ago, House Republicans launched an effort called Americans Speaking Out, which purports to give average Americans the ability to offer their input on what Congress should do. It became quickly apparent that the enterprise was little more than a taxpayer-funded PR gimmick to help Republicans market their agenda for this fall’s elections, even as they ignored any ideas they didn’t already support. Now, under the banner of Americans Speaking Out, House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH) has summoned advice from those who he truly seems interested in listening to: lobbyists. Roll Call reports that Boehner has invited “senior Republican lobbyists and top officials from several large trade groups” to a meeting at Boehner’s office to discuss “their suggestions for a new GOP agenda” […]

Tea’ed Off

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell backed the wrong horse in the Senate primary back home in Kentucky and now he’s paying the price with state Republicans. A new PPP (D) poll out today shows McConnell’s approval rating has fallen to a record low 34% in his home state.

Even worse for McConnell is that only 38% of voters surveyed said that they want McConnell to remain the head of his party’s caucus in the Senate. Almost half — 49% — said they don’t think McConnell should keep his job as Republican leader.

They’re dumb, stupid, idiotic, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera…

From IOWA POLITICS.COM (Press release):

Lake Elmo, Minnesota – Congressman Steve King will be the featured speaker at Congresswoman Michele Bachmann’s annual picnic tonight in Lake Elmo, Minnesota. Bachmann is seeking her third term in the U.S. Congress and hosts this event for volunteers and supporters.

King’s endorsement has been highly sought by conservative candidates for Congress across the nation. He has recently campaigned for candidates in New Hampshire, Florida, Arizona, and Virginia.

King and Bachmann have been dynamic allies on Capitol Hill leading the fight to repeal Obamacare and to prevent further takeovers by the federal government. King and Bachmann have teamed up to author the “Declaration of Health Care Independence,” organize tens of thousands in opposition to Obamacare, and now are the two lead Members of Congress pressing for a “discharge petition” to repeal Obamacare.

“Michele Bachmann is intellectually brilliant, quick, strongly grounded in her faith and the Constitution, bold in her defense of Liberty, and extraordinarily blessed with great instincts,” said King. “At no time in my life has America needed her more.”

King is also seeking re-election to the U.S. Congress in Iowa’s 5th Congressional District. First elected in 2002, King has earned national stature and prominence as a leading voice for Constitutional Conservatives in America. He serves on the U.S. House Judiciary, Small Business, and Agriculture Committees.

John Boehnehead

From Dan Balz at POST POLITICS at The Washington Post:

“I’ve made it pretty clear,” House Minority Leader John A. Boehner said, “that if we are a majority and I’m lucky enough to be speaker, I’m going to run the House differently than it’s being run today and differently than it was run under Republicans in the past.”

Boehner (R-Ohio) was sitting in his Capitol office, an ever-present pack of cigarettes near his fingertips. It was a few hours before he would end up on the receiving end of an attack from President Obama for having described the financial regulatory bill as “killing an ant with a nuclear weapon.” That remark, to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, would bring him heaps of criticism all week.
