Darrell-iction of Duty

Washington (CNN) – Rep. Darrell Issa (R-California), the brand-new chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government reform, defended comments he had previously made that President Obama is “one of the most corrupt presidents of modern times.”

Speaking to CNN’s Chief National Correspondent John King Wednesday, Issa offered his definition of the word “corrupt”:

“I think people misunderstand the meaning of the word corrupt, and obviously, CNN does. ‘Corrupt’, or ‘corrupted’ or ‘failure’, it’s no different than a disc drive that’s given you some bits that are wrong,” Issa said on CNN.

Issa continued, “I have never said it’s illegal. I’ve never made any of the statements that are often said on CNN that implied wrong-doing of the president at a criminal level, but I do believe that the American people have changed the control of the House in no small part because they saw more regulation, more misspending than they ever dreamed possible and they need Republicans to be part of the balance to bring that back under control.”

The question was prompted by comments Issa made to Rush Limbaugh on October 19, 2010, when he said, “There will be a certain degree of gridlock as the president adjusts to the fact that he has been one of the most corrupt presidents in modern times. He has ignored the very laws that he said were so vital when he was a senator. And, you know, he’s going to have to come back a different direction.”

The poor Rethuglicans! No matter what they say, the rest of the world is just too damned stupid to understand what they really mean.

  1. I seem to remember in 2008 all of the right-wing blather-show hosts accusing the Left of preparing to spend the next four years governing by investigation … threatening to use committees to investigate all of the workings of government under the Bush administration.

Of course, that never happened. Funny thing, that.

Now, like death panels, it appears that the Right actually likes what it derides when the Left isn’t doing it.

And if that last sentence makes sense to you, then you should worry.

    • the rethugs are nothing if not hypocritical. while they go on the news and blather on and on about how they revere the constitution, they have members who don’t even show up to take the oath of office required by that document. then they take another dump on it when they try to remedy the situation.

p.s. that sentence made perfect sense to me. now i’m worried (but only because you told me to be).

      • I missed that oath of office story … for some reason, this doesn’t surprise me. I would have thought that it would, but it doesn’t.

I was talking on Facebook to a friend of mine from college. She was president of the Young Democrats opposite my presidency of the College Republicans.

She asked me what happened. I told her that my religious views conflicted with my politics, and I had to choose one. Also, I found that my allies were immature hypocrites.

She replied, “Well, yeah. I get that. But that’s always been the case. I just wonder how you finally saw it.”

Very simple wken, if they do something, it’s not wrong. It’s like Tricky Dick said, “If the President does it, that means it’s not illegal.” Of course that only counts if the President is a Rethuglican. Dems are, in their view, illegal by their very existence.

  2. jeb

Issa is a disc with MANY bits that are wrong.

  3. If Obama is a corrupted disk drive, then Issa is a shorted-out vacuum tube.

    • and soon to be a broken record. he’ll say the same crap over and over and over again. that’s from the frank luntz handbook–say b.s. repeatedly, and people will believe it, even when confronted with facts.

      • kaylaspop

Problem is all the dipshits watching FAUX will believe him.

        • does it really matter? those people are so stupid and brainwashed, if they didn’t believe him, they’ll believe the next asswipe who comes along. in a way, it’s good that this is all coming from issa, because i’m not so sure that the fact that he’s of arab descent will sit well with the teabagging haters.

Oh boy, a new intertubes parlor game. Fill in the blank: Issa is a…..

    I dibs assclown.

  5. Yea Issa should KNOW the definition of corrupt.

    clipped from wiki:
Following the 2010 elections, Issa sent a letter to “more than 150 trade associations, companies and think tanks,” including “the oil industry, drug manufacturers and other trade groups and companies” asking them “to tell him which Obama administration regulations to target” in the upcoming Congress. Critics have charged that Issa was “embracing regulatory capture.”
Elijah Cummings, the ranking member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, said Issa’s letters were tantamount to β€œinviting businesses to tell us what they want us to do as opposed to protecting the American people.”

His net worth has been estimated at more than $250 million, making him the “richest member of Congress”

    really creepy:
Issa made his fortune through his company, Directed Electronics Incorporated, that is most famous for its flagship product, the “Viper” car alarm. It bears a siren that is a recording of Issa’s voice saying, “please step away from the car.

Maybe We the People need to make a recording saying “Please Darrell Issa, step away from the House of Representatives….”

    • i read that he’s only the second richest member of congress, with john kerry at the top. he’s the richest in the house, though. why don’t we see teabaggers on tv being asked about what they think about what the rethugs have been up to this past week? newspeople couldn’t get enough of them during the campaign season.

  6. What a great poster! You made him look like Danny Thomas as a mobster. What a wonder these last few days have been with all these self righteous bastards breaking every high falutin’ promise of their little booklet, fucking up the constution reading, and giving us a parlimentary crisis because two who know better are out chasing mammon instead of following the rules. Idiocy like qualifying each proposed bill with its constitutional reference was the first thing to go out the window. How could an aviation safety bill be introduced since there were no flying machines around in 1790? All bills will be posted for 3 days on the intertubes (does 4 minutes count?). Tranparency and allowing the other party to do amendments. Nope. Getting the Bonerman to shut up his crowd that insist our president is a usurper blackamoor who wandered in off the street and siezed power? Not going to happen. All they claim to want is undoing everything that helps regular people so they can suck up even more than usual to the hyperwealth and the moneychangers and swindlers. And Issa will investigate into infinity to find these high crimes of the trillion dollar walking around money he so frequently mentions . Their avowed mission is total disruption and repeal with the ultimate goal the destruction of the leader of the free world. Maybe when they sleep, they dream of an infant dressed in an Uncle Sam outfit being held under the water in the bathtub. They have mentioned the premise many times. Only commies and gopers preach that line of government eventually going away. Now most of the commies are gone and the goper turn is next. It’s gonna be a long two years.

I was busy working yesterday and missed the whole gaggle or morons trying to struggle their way through reading the constitution. My question is whether or not they found that specific reference where the founders said absolutely no healthcare since it sounds to me like they believe there is a specific constitutional prohibition against healthcare reform.

      • i didn’t watch the spectacle. however, i caught bits and pieces of it on the news, and it was like an assembly in elementary school, where every kid gets a turn to read so that their mommies and daddies can clap and take pictures of them. it was such an unbelievable waste of time. there was one rethug (i think it was mike fitzpatrick, who was awol when he was supposed to be taking the oath) who pronounced ‘president pro tempore’ as the ‘president pro temporary.’ i’d say more about that, but it would be hyperbowl. πŸ˜‰

    • he does look like danny thomas, but i didn’t make him look like that, he did! i don’t know what i can add to what you already said, jerry. very good summary of what the rethugs are all about and what they’ll be doing.

  7. Snoring Dog Studio

Issa trying to define “corrupt” is like Palin trying to define “dignity.” I watched a bit of Maddow last night and, if things continue as they have, the Republicans will succeed in uniting Democrats like no way before. I’m certainly going to spend all of 2011 reminding people that the buffoons they’ve put in the House majority don’t even remotely have their best interests at heart. I’m going to love their repeal of the ACA show next week.

    • I thought of Palin, too. Just make it up as you go along.

      • i thought of palin and angle immediately when i heard of the congresswoman being shot and all those people dying. by the way, here’s a picture of gabe zimmerman (he’s on the left), the congressional staffer who was among the dead. he was 30 years old. a 9-year-old little girl was murdered. a federal judge, and others. “don’t retreat, reload!” “second amendment remedies.” i really try to watch my language here, but fuck palin and fuck angle! fuck bachmann for wanting her constituents “armed and dangerous!” fuck their teabaggers followers! fuck charleton heston, who i hope is burning in hell right now. i won’t wish anyone dead, because i refuse to be like them, so i will instead wish palin and angle and bachmann lives filled with terror. i hope they’re afraid every single moment of their miserable lives. words have consequences. the shooter was probably mentally ill, but that only made him more susceptible to your hateful rhetoric. fuck you, sarah palin, for expressing your condolences. you should never be heard from again, you piece of shit. i have to stop now, because i am so angry. it’s time to focus on those who are still living. i wish the injured a full and speedy recovery, and some sense of peace for the families and friends of those who are no longer with them.

        • *hugs* I know.

I don’t try to watch my language because I feel better venting.

          • i try to watch my language, if only to save the worst for the worst, like in this case. it’s like not taking pain medication for small aches and pains, or it won’t work when you need it for something really severe.

    • or batshit bachmann defining integrity, lindsypoo graham defining macho, or capt underpants defining honor.

  8. Issa: Grate cheese.

    writechic: Grate it yourself.

Issa: I wasn’t telling you. I meant a sewer cover made of cheese.

    writechic: Idiot.
