Straight Talk

From ON TOP magazine:

During Thursday’s edition of The Glenn Beck Program, former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum denied he’s homophobic, but then added that gay sex should be criminalized.

Earlier in the week, in response to former Wyoming Senator Alan Simpson’s claim that the GOP is homophobic, Beck said he doesn’t see it.

In an appearance on MSNBC’s Hardball, Simpson, a Republican who served 18 years in the Senate, said Santorum “has said some cruel things, cruel, cruel things about homosexuals.”

…snip…

“There were no ‘cruel, cruel’ remarks,” Santorum told Beck. “All I can ponder is that Alan Simpson is talking about a comment that I made, which I paraphrased, almost word for word, but paraphrased a Supreme Court justice in a case called Lawrence v. Texas, before that case came out, which had to do with, as you know, a Supreme Court case on the issue of sodomy, and I said that if you have – if the Supreme Court changes the legal standard to say that consensual sexual activity is now a constitutional right, then we open up the gates for all sorts of consensual activity.”

“Unfortunately, folks like Alan Simpson saw that as homophobic.”

“It’s not homophobic. It’s a legal argument, and it’s a correct legal argument. In fact, that’s exactly what’s happening. We went from Lawrence v. Texas to now a constitutional right to same-sex marriage and they’re going into a constitutional right to polyamorous relationships. This is the slippery slope that we’re heading down, and I stand by it.”

I have always marveled how every ultracon argument against same-sex marriage immediately leaps to man-boy love, bestiality, and pretty much everything else of which you can conceive. I’ve never met a gay person who believed in any of the alternatives the far right always puts forth. It’s basically the equal of saying that if you allow each person to carry one semi-automatic pistol in their car, then the immediate next step is Mad Max with gatling guns and flamethrowers. (Actually, there is a game called Car Wars that does just that – great fun! :D) It would be nice if they’d just get past the gay marriage issue and get to something real – like our lack of a budget, for instance. Then again, I’m asking for reason from the right. I’m sorry, I’ll go away now… 😉

“It’s a legal argument” is one magnificent line…

    • yeah, that’s just as cowardly as “some people say….” it’s as though the thought never occurred to him before he heard the legal opinion. 🙄

If you get called out by Alan Simpson, what the hell does that say about you?

And here’s a delightful comment from Santorum about his about to be former slogan:

Excellent work on the poster Nonnie, homo seltzer is hilarious. Unfortunately, I don’t think they make an industrial strength version for ol’ Man-on-Dog.

  6. Really funny, Nonnie. 😆

I think Santorum would especially appreciate the suppository form of homo seltzer.

  7. Ah! The closing line….
“now a constitutional right to same-sex marriage and they’re going into a constitutional right to polyamorous relationships. This is the slippery slope that we’re heading down, and I stand by it.”

So did he just say he’s slipping down that slope???

    • i’m just shocked he didn’t throw in pedophilia. that’s where they usually go, but they’ve switched to “polyamorous” because that makes people think of mormons, and they want to get rid of mittsie before he can pick up any steam. the ironic thing is that glenn blechhh is a mormon, and i guess he doesn’t care if people diss his religion.

  8. Great ad Nonnie. Don’t they understand that repressing the Nancy faction will only lead to more illicit rumpy-pumpy on the hillsides leaving the slopes all slippery with santorum with poor Rick standing right in it. Of course, politics being what it is, they may all moderate and start doing it in the middle of the road. (see White Album: Why don’t we do it in the road)

  9. I’m keeping my dogs far away from him.

  10. Three bits of good news … well, personally speaking. 1) I’ve never given Rick Santorum any of my time. 2) He’s simply a member of a GOP conga line of presidential candidates that have no chance. 3) At least goofballs as Santorum give the fabulous Nonnie endless material. 🙂

  11. //that consensual sexual activity is now a constitutional right, then we open up the gates for all sorts of consensual activity.”//

?Well? gees… after all these years of practicing consensual activity…. I never knew…. I was….. oh oh oh….. a … Consensualist!!!! Damn… I remember getting Consensual with girlfriends… my ex-wife…. wowswers!!! there were even times I practiced casual Consensuality!!! Fact is…. I wouldn’t mind meeting a nice girl and , ya know, have a few beers, maybe go back to her place… and hmmmmm get ?Consensual?. Yesirre Bob! “When Consensuality is outlawed” ….. gees… there has to be an end to that sentence…..
Is that guy plain old stupid…. or is he fucking nutz!!

    • Is that guy plain old stupid…. or is he fucking nutz!!

why does one preclude the other?

as for being a consensualist, it’s even worse than you stated. the very word sounds very much like Consuela, which is very illegal-immigrant sounding.

    Hi Nonnie’!
Guess I can wish my fellow Republicans will someday cowboy up and stand behind what they say, or, better yet– don’t say anything at all. Should our electronic paths not cross again this week, here’s wishing you and yours a safe and memorable holiday.

    • hi al! always lovely to see you. 😀

the one thing i have to give credit to santorum for is the fact that his rhetoric hasn’t changed. no flip-flopping. he’s always been a hater.

  13. Nice job, once again!
