Methinks he doth protest too much

From Top of the Ticket at the Los Angeles Times:

Michele Bachmann, the Republican representative from Minnesota, was “glittered” earlier this month for her conservative stance on gay marriage. But after listening to audio of her husband, he can probably expect some glitter his way soon.

As first reported by the Think Progress blog, Marcus Bachmann, who in March was described by former Minnesota Republican Party Chairman Ron Carey as part of Michele’s “brain trust,” was a guest on the Christian-based “Point of View” radio talk show on May 12, 2010, where he came out strongly against the LGBT community.

“We have to understand: Barbarians need to be educated. They need to be disciplined. Just because someone feels it or thinks it doesn’t mean that we are supposed to go down that road. That’s what is called the sinful nature. We have a responsibility as parents and as authority figures not to encourage such thoughts and feelings from moving into the action steps,” Marcus Bachmann said.

But does Marcus Bachmann, besides being Michele Bachmann’s husband, really have any political influence on his wife? Carey, who served as the congresswoman’s chief of staff in 2010, said yes in March.

“The only person she talks to as an insider is her husband, Marcus, who’s a wonderful man, and her son Lucas,” Carey told the Minnesota Star-Tribune. “That’s really her brain trust.”

“Yes, I’m her strategist,” Marcus Bachmann told the Star-Trib.

Then let’s hear more from Mr. Bachmann about homosexuality. He apparently believes that the Christian commandment to “love your neighbor as you would yourself” will only lead to more people deciding to be gay. And who did Mr. Bachmann blame? Public schools.

“And let’s face it: What is our culture, what is our public education system doing today? They are giving full, wide-open doors to children, not only giving encouragement to think it but to encourage action steps. That’s why when we understand what truly is the percentage of homosexuals in this country, it is small. But by these open doors, I can see and we are experiencing, that it is starting to increase,” Marcus Bachmann said.

Video at the Los Angeles Times link, but watch this one, and you tell me if Marcus might protest too much:

A Christian commandment is making people gay? So…. therefore, a dogmatic belief in Christian, and especially Catholic, religion should make one more likely to be gay, no? And taken to its’ (illogical) extreme, preachers should be even more likely to be gay, since they are talking about commandments all the time, right? (I’ll ignore the obvious stupidity of the “choosing to be gay” BS.)
This is Michelle’s “brain trust”? I guess the relationship is based on trust, ’cause the brain sure as heck is missing!
Remind a poor confused person just HOW Bachmann is supposed to save Western civilisation, especially with such … “talent” … supporting her?

    • i bet his little weewee woke up a bit when he talked about disciplining gay people. i bet he’d just love to do that.

i wonder how the media is going to handle marcus’s loafer lightness. after all, they reported every little thing that “some say” about democrats, especially obama, so will they mention that “some say” that marcus is so friggin’ flaming that he makes liberace look macho?

  2. jeb

The gayer they are, the louder they pray.

    • and the more time they spend on their knees. that might be a good thing, because if they ever get any self-awareness, the calluses on their knees will come in handy.

Doesn’t he look like Michele’s brother?

  4. I have no idea whether or not he has gay tendencies, but it would fit. People who have such tendencies, but are in deep denial about them, are often weirdly obsessed with homosexuality, whereas the subject is of little interest to most genuine heterosexuals. People who are his age today grew up at a time when frequent condemnation of homosexuality didn’t raise the kinds of suspicions it does today, after so many bigots have been caught doing what they condemn.

It would be pretty cool if Mr. Bachmann were caught with a luggage-lifter or up to no good in an airport restroom.

    • i would love to see him caught in flagrante delicto with a rent boy, but i suspect that he’s more disciplined than the likes of george rekers. he has probably suppressed his true nature since the jeebus was drilled into his head. however, its a funny thing about people’s true natures. they tend to eventually make themselves known.

  5. After doing a little Breitbart/O’Keefe style cut & paste editing, this is what Marcus ‘worst-fear-best -fantasy’ said (in his own words)
“Yes, I can see it is small, but by giving encouragement, it is starting to increase. I’m full wide-open, and let’s face it, need to be disciplined. Homosexuals have a responsibility to go down these open doors, we understand such thoughts and feelings moving into action. “

  6. The guy is a mental health clinical psychologist with a PhD & he’s married to Michelle Batshit.
Ok…. that alone makes him & his credentials questionable, don’t cha think???

    • a phd? he got his phd from a correspondence school! he probably had to copy a picture of a turtle from a matchbook as his final exam. he’s a fraud just like his wife.

  7. And just think, we only have to endure seven months of this nonsense to climax in a who cares caucus in a state full of religio-nuts that is very inconsequential to any reality (even the national party says they’re bonkers out there). Just hope he abides the commandment that say “thou shall not covet thy neighbors ass”.

Blackjack wants to know if that commandment also covers goats. 😉

      • It might, but it would be more likely the old Karnac joke that Carson did when he held the envelope to his head “Gotzbadeh” and opens the envelope to reveal the question: “What does an Iranian man seek when his wife won’t give him sex at night”

        • Tom Davis RIP

As I recall, that wasn’t actually Carson. It was Franken & Davis doing a Karnac bit on SNL.

      • johncerickson

I’d rather try having relations with a porcupine sitting on top of a cactus in a field of poison ivy than even WALK behind Blackjack, much less …. you know. If you think a goat’s best weapons are the horns, walk around and slap one on the butt. Just do me a favour first, and put me in your will! 😀

    • i wish these circuses that occur every 4 years would make people demand that the system be changed. why should the rest of the country have to accept the candidates that asswipes in crappy iowa, south carolina, and new hampshire choose?

  8. This guy is such an idiot. Christians are always stupid. I think he needs to be disciplined, personally. A blunt object upside the head would do fine.

Hey, I’m adding your blog to my supergay blogroll. You can expect some extra traffic from mine to yours.

If you care to look at my blog:

    • hello patrickfitzmichael,

      welcome to the raisin. 😀

i can’t agree that all christians are always stupid. there are a few who come here who are quite thoughtful and open-minded. this guy isn’t one of them. he’s a hate-filled bigot, and so is his beard wife.

Good Lord, you could have two separate games of pro football being played at the same time on the space that makes up Marcus’s forehead!

  10. Meanwhile Minnesota has gone belly up financially… the state capital is closed & so are gvmnt funded things, statewide.
You might even say it’s “barbaric”.

  11. The only way Marcus could have made it more obvious would have been if he had said, “Gays are *savages* who need to be disciplined.”

  12. He makes MY gaydar SCREAM.

Why is it that the most vociferous homophobes have more issues than National Geographic????

    • hello terryc1101,

      welcome to the raisin! 😀

😆 at more issues than national geographic! that’s perfect! hope you’ll come by again soon, terry.

  13. Interesting. Truth Wins Out Also posted on Marcus Bachmann’s comments, and many commenters came to the same conclusion as you folks about his orientation.
