Michele Who?

From YAHOO NEWS:

Former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty will join former Sen. Rick Santorum, R-Pa., and businessman Herman Cain at a New Hampshire event next month hosted by the tea party-affiliated Americans for Prosperity Foundation (AFPF).

Also invited, but not yet confirmed are former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, R-Ga., and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.

Sen. John Thune, R-S.D., was invited, but his office “politely reminded us that he’s not running,” said AFPF New Hampshire State Director Corey Lewandowski.

Just as noteworthy are the contenders who didn’t make the cut at all, including Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., a tea party favorite.

Randy Randy (Bed)Hopper

From the fdlreporter:

State Sen. Randy Hopper has hired a high profile national campaign manager to help him defend his seat against a recall effort and an allegation that Hopper no longer lives in the district he represents. The Fond du Lac Republican and seven other GOP state senators are the subjects of recall efforts following the tumult in Madison over Gov. Scott Walker’s budget repair bill and their votes to eliminate collective bargaining for state workers on issues other than pay.

…snip…

This week, Hopper’s wife said the senator had moved out of the couple’s Fond du Lac home. In a statement, Alysia Hopper said her estranged husband moved out of their Rienzi Road home in May 2010 and lives “mostly in Madison.”

It used to be his party, and he’ll cry if he wants to.

From POLITICO:

Tuesday’s breakdown in Republican discipline weakens Speaker John Boehner’s hand in White House budget talks and raises the chances of a government shutdown next month unless he and President Barack Obama greatly step up their game.

Fifty-four Republicans broke ranks with Boehner, leaving him suddenly dependent on Democrats to win House approval of a must-pass three-week spending bill to keep the government operating past Friday. Tea-party-backed freshmen contributed to the embarrassment, but an equal force was a set of more veteran conservatives — some with their own political agenda but also more willing to risk an immediate fight with the White House.

How Kudlow Can You Get?

From VANITY FAIR:

In these tough economic times, isn’t it nice to know that calamitous natural disasters needn’t have an adverse affect on your investment portfolio? After the 8.9-magnitude earthquake in Japan failed to induce a market nosedive, CNBC’s Larry Kudlow expressed his relief in terms that seemed to appall even his fellow cheerleaders for capitalism: “The human toll here,” he declared, “looks to be much worse than the economic toll and we can be grateful for that.”

Michigan Mishigas

From mlive.com:

When Republicans won everything in Michigan last year, they were supposed to put an end to tax increases forever.

Well, that lasted until Gov. Rick Snyder came up with his budget that taxes pensions (sorry, Grandma), eliminates the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) for low-income working folks and freezes the income tax at 4.25 percent instead of gradually rolling it back to 3.9 percent.

The New New Hampshire, Now Located in Massachusetts

From politicalticker at CNN:

At a time when the former Alaska governor appears to be shrinking from the spotlight, Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann is stepping up as yet another favorite daughter of the conservative movement.

In recent television appearances, political activities and speaking engagements, Bachmann has matched Palin’s slams against President Obama and garnered seemingly equal affection from conservative activists.

But it remains to be seen whether embarrassing and highly publicized gaffes will affect her presidential chances.
