From Vox:
For the second time in two weeks, freshman Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) was interrupted mid-question at a Senate Intelligence Committee hearing.
At the hearing for Attorney General Jeff Sessions Tuesday afternoon, Harris was asking about a Department of Justice policy Sessions repeatedly referred to when Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) interrupted her.
Senator McCain is an ex officio member of the committee, and he spoke out of turn to say that “the witness should be allowed to answer the question.” Sen. Richard Burr (R-NC), chair of the Intelligence Committee, admonished McCain and instructed him to “let the chair control the hearing.” But then he proceeded to echo McCain, telling Harris to let Sessions answer […]
…snip…
Those watching the hearing did not miss an opportunity to point out this “manterruption.”
…snip…
Harris was also prevented from finishing her questions to Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein during the June 7 Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act hearing due to an interruption from McCain and Burr, according to reporting by the LA Times.
First Elizabeth Warren silenced by Yertle McConnell, and now Kamala Harris. Funny how these big tough guys never seem to bully other men.
Nevertheless, she persisted.
Your best headline EVAH!
Why thank you, thank you very much. I’ll be here all week. Tip your waitresses, try the veal.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Our government is dominated by men who are, shall we say, getting on in years. Their attitudes were formed back in the days of the “original vile advertisement”, and power and wealth have insulated them from social change over the decades. As I may have said before, they’re dinosaurs who don’t yet realize they’re extinct.
It’s too bad about McCain, because over the years he’s usually conducted himself far more honorably than most Republicans. He’s about the only one of them that I respect. But he’s a product of his time.
There are dems in Congress just as old or almost as old, and they managed to evolve over time. As for McCain, was her really honorable, or did the title of POW give him special immunity from the media? He cheated on his disabled first wife repeatedly and left her for a younger woman whose father just happened to be a multimillionaire with political and gangster connections. He insulted Chelsea Clinton when she was just a teenager and has been known to have a bad temper.
It’s like the “hero” John Wayne. What did he ever do to be called a hero? Fight in a war? Nope. Save someone’s life? Nope. Put himself in harm’s way for the greater good? Nope. Faithful husband? Nope. He starred in movies (and was a shitty actor, in my opinion) while thousands of real heroes served and died in WW2, including other movie stars.
McCain had good PR, maybe promoted and paid for my his daddy-in-law and his buddies, and it stuck. He has daughters, but the way he treats women is abominable. So honorable? Not an adjective I would use, but YMMV.
The GOP are just a bunch of bastards. I bet they don’t interrupt their super wealthy wives at home. I have often wondered who wears the pants in the family of male politicians.
I also think that they have a hard time with female politicians who seem to have more brains than their male counterparts.
Kamala Harris is a double-threat. Female and a woman of color. Smart and accomplished and articulate. They view her as the female Obama, and that scares the shit out of them. They were terrified of Hillary, too, and their go-to defense is to denigrate, belittle and disrespect.
It’s so sad but you are on the mark about those racist/bigoted bastards. They hated Obama because he was/is a smart black man and now Model T is rapidly undoing all the good things that Obama made happen. One thing he can’t undo is the Nobel Peace prize. I reckon that really galls Model T.
