Chips Off the Old Blockhead

From Newsweek:

[I]n the wake of Donald Trump Jr.’s admission to taking and sitting in on a meeting built around gaining significant political opposition research on Democrat Hillary Clinton last year from the Russian government, one Republican lawmaker is suggesting the president remove his family from political matters.

Texas U.S. Representative Bill Flores, a Republican now in his fourth term in the state’s 17th District, told CBS local affiliate KBTX-TV on Wednesday that Trump’s children, as well as his son-in-law, should be bounced from the White House.

“I’m going out on a limb here, but I would say that I think it would be in the president’s best interest if he removed all of his children from the White House,” Flores said. “Not only Donald Trump, but Ivanka and Jared Kushner.”

Trump Jr., along with his younger brother, Eric, are not part of the administration and are instead co-running the Trump Organization. Eldest daughter Ivanka Trump and Kushner, though, are top advisers to the president, with the former previously labeled a so-called “whisperer” capable of corralling her father at some of his more combustible moments.

Kushner, similar to Trump Jr., has also found himself under intense federal scrutiny both for his finances and his role in the campaign last year. Also hailing from the real estate world, Kushner received a $285 million loan from German-bank Deutsche Bank one month before Election Day last year and most recently McClatchy DC reported federal investigators are examining the digital operation he ran for the campaign.

Flores questioned Trump Jr.’s decision to attend the Russian meeting, which took place June 9, 2016, at Trump Tower in New York, and has led to significant backlash and only furthered allegations that the Republican campaign colluded with Russia to discredit Clinton and win the Oval Office last year.

“I do find issues with the meeting. It’s a meeting that should not have taken place,” said Flores. “I think he thought he was looking out for his father’s best interest.”

    • Hi Curits! It’s been a while. 😀

Eric is in a contest with Tiffany and Barron to be the most boring of the Twitler clan. I didn’t know Lyle Alzedo played the monster in The Goonies. I thought it was Trent Franks from Arizona. Yes, that was mean and nasty, but Trent Franks is an asshole, so I’m not sorry.

  2. “I think he thought he was looking out for his father’s best interest.” Yep that’s good ole boy Flores that represents my area of Texas. He is also a dumb sucker. What a statement! Could he not have made his statement much stronger? You have to admire how members of the House and Senate manage to complain about Model T but do so in a rather gentle manner that really is not a put down or criticism at all. I am getting so sick of all the nut jobs in government.

    • It was a wussy statement, but at least it was something. The other Rethugs are either in hiding or saying that this is no big deal or that they would have done the same thing or that we need to start cozying up to Russia. At least Flores has the balls to say that Prince Jared and Princess Daughter/Wife need to leave and have no official titles, privileges or responsibilities.

  3. the loony tic

    ’emoluments deliveries in back.’ lol!

  4. Friend of the court

doesn’t Manifort speak Russian? Why a translator, anyway? I bet the lawyer speaks English, better than Trump, and spells it, better than me..The whole thing smells like a school lunch dumpster in the noon day sun, on Friday. They are a production.

    • It’s possible to speak a foreign language quite well and still be at risk of getting nuances wrong (I speak from experience here). At a meeting like this, everyone would want to make sure there were no subtle misunderstandings.

Removing the junior Trumplings from the center of power is good advice, but in times of stress Donald tends to want familiar people around him. Besides, he seems to be cool with them getting in on the grifting racket. It’s a family business.

We outnumber him — and his voters.

      • Remember when we were told how Condi Rice was an expert on Russia and spoke Russian fluently? 😆 Some expert. She always had a translator, and I suspect that she might understand and speak some Russian, but she’s not fluent. Or an expert.

Twitler can’t be without his fawning daughter/wife and son-in-law. It’s not a matter of him preferring that they are there, he needs them there. He is in way over his head, and they all know it, so he needs them to stroke his ego every moment. It’s not like Melanoma is going to do it. She’s too busy trying to blink.

    • From Bloomberg:

Manafort, who speaks neither Russian nor Ukrainian, developed a close working relationship with Yanukovych, discussing—through an interpreter—politics and strategy during sauna sessions and tennis matches at the opulent Mezhyhirya palace, according to a person who worked on Yanukovych’s election campaigns.

Not surprised. He can barely make sense in English.
