From Politicus USA:
On Tuesday, when asked about the senatorial race in Alabama between Democrat Doug Jones and Republican Roy Moore, who’s been accused of sexual assault by numerous women, President Trump responded, “We don’t need a liberal democrat in that seat.” He added, “Roy Moore denies it— that’s all I can say.”

From The Atlantic:
Attorney General Jeff Sessions said Thursday he would recuse himself from overseeing the federal investigation into alleged Russian interference in the presidential election, citing the advice of his staff.
The move comes less than 24 hours after The Washington Post revealed Sessions had spoken with Sergey Kislyak, the Russian ambassador to the United States, on two separate occasions during the campaign. That appeared to contradict assertions made by Sessions to the Senate Judiciary Committee twice during the confirmation process.

Sen. Jim Bunning, the Kentucky Republican who held Senate hostage over an unemployment bill earlier this month, is now causing trouble for the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative.
Bunning is blocking the confirmation of two trade nominees because, according to an aide, the USTR hasn’t done enough to defend Bunning’s home state against a Canadian antismoking law that “unfairly discriminates against Kentucky-grown tobacco.”

From the L. A. Times:
Election day is more than a year away, but Republican Sen. Susan Collins of Maine is already facing a barrage of attack ads, protesters at her local offices and a strong Democratic challenger. It’s a far different environment than in her last race for reelection, when her popularity was soaring and she won a commanding 58% of the vote.
The one-word explanation for the change: Iraq.
