Why Hermie should be (Tali)banned from speaking

From CBS NEWS:

Herman Cain suggested Friday that the Taliban were playing a role in Libya’s new government. The comment initially was seen as another foreign policy misstep from the Republican presidential candidate, but aides later pointed to a one-time Libyan rebel leader who fought in Afghanistan to back up Cain’s claims.

Cain has spent the week trying to calm jitters about his foreign policy after he struggled to answer whether he supported President Barack Obama’s approach to Libya. He ended the week trying to blame reporters for the moment, which was captured on video and quickly spread around the Internet.

Cain’s critics seized on Monday’s incoherent answer as the latest evidence that the former pizza executive is unprepared to be the GOP’s nominee.

Who says there are no manufacturing jobs left in America?

From Tim Dickinson at Rolling Stone:

How Roger Ailes Built the Fox News Fear Factory

The onetime Nixon operative has created the most profitable propaganda machine in history. Inside America’s Unfair and Imbalanced Network

The key to decoding Fox News isn’t Bill O’Reilly or Sean Hannity. It isn’t even News Corp. chief Rupert Murdoch. To understand what drives Fox News, and what its true purpose is, you must first understand Chairman [Roger] Ailes. “He is Fox News,” says Jane Hall, a decade-long Fox commentator who defected over Ailes’ embrace of the fear-mongering Glenn Beck. “It’s his vision. It’s a reflection of him.”

Justice says, “Justified!”

From msnbc:

The killing of Osama bin Laden was legally justified, and would have been even if the al-Qaida leader had made some sign that he wished to surrender, Attorney General Eric Holder said Wednesday.

“The operation in which Osama bin Laden was killed was lawful,” Holder told the Senate Judiciary Committee. “He was the head of al-Qaida, an organization that had conducted the attacks of September 11th. He admitted his involvement and he indicated that he would not be taken alive. The operation against bin Laden was justified as an act of national self defense.”

Rocky Mountain Low

From THINK PROGRESS:

Last week, former Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-CO) gave Colorado Republican gubernatorial candidates Scott McInnis and Dan Maes an ultimatum: drop out of the race and make room for him under the Republican Party ticket, or face his third party candidacy. It turns out Tancredo is following through on his threat. The Denver Post broke the news earlier today that Tancredo will seek the nomination of the Constitution Party once he files some papers and registers as a member. However, Tancredo is running into some heavy opposition from his own right-wing base.

“She tweeted us, that meant we had to respond with a countertweet,” said Khan, one of the founders of the Cordoba Institute, the group planning to build an Islamic Cultural Center on Park Place, two blocks from the World Trade Center site.

Khan wrote back: “Let thou not tweet about bleeding hearts let’s meet refudiate thine mosque charge; Muslim YMCA long live USA a ground for all faiths.“

Squawk Radio

From The Boston Globe:

Talk show host Jay Severin offered a “sincere apology” today for “hurtful, unkind, and wrong” remarks he made about Mexicans in the midst of the swine flu panic, vowing to do better as he returned to the air on Boston’s WTKK-FM following a month-long suspension.

…snip…

WTKK suspended the right-wing talk show host on April 30 after he described Mexicans as “primitives” and “leeches” and called Mexico an exporter of “women with mustaches and VD,” among other comments.

Don’t know if he’s a prince, but I hope someone crowns him!

From The Los Angeles Times:

Former Vice President Dick Cheney personally oversaw at least four briefings with senior members of Congress about controversial interrogation programs, part of a secretive and forceful defense he mounted throughout 2005 in an effort to maintain support for the harsh techniques used against detainees.

The Cheney-led briefings came at some of the most crucial moments for the program, as congressional oversight committees were threatening to investigate or even terminate the techniques used in interrogations, according to lawmakers, congressional officials and current and former intelligence officials.
