CIA or IOU?

From Pro Publica:

A judge wrapped up one of the most sordid and sprawling congressional scandals in American history Thursday when he sentenced Kyle “Dusty” Dustin Foggo, formerly the No. 3 official at the CIA, to just over three years in federal prison for defrauding the government.

Foggo is one of eight people who have pleaded guilty or been convicted — and now sentenced — in a scandal that emanated from the bribery spree of former Rep. Randy “Duke” Cunningham, who has the distinction of being the most corrupt congressman ever caught, at least in terms of the amount of bribes he admitted to taking –- more than $2.4 million.

Oscar Madison: Now kindly remove that spaghetti from my poker table.

Oscar Madison: The hell’s so funny?
Felix Ungar: It’s not spaghetti, it’s linguini.
[Oscar picks up the linguini and hurls it against the kitchen wall]
Oscar Madison: Now it’s garbage. The Odd Couple, 1968

One of the funniest movies ever! And speaking of garbage….
From The Seattle Post-Intelligencer:

The Republican brand is in the garbage

There’s only one thing worse than being a member of Congress these days – being a Republican member of Congress.

Party Animals

From The Hill:

The Republican Party is making a concerted effort to get real after Tuesday’s crushing special-election loss in Mississippi, but the challenge will be agreeing on how to move forward with a new agenda.

The GOP is in a state of upheaval after Democrat Travis Childers’s stunning 54-46 runoff win over Republican Greg Davis in a very conservative district, and it immediately stopped trying to mask that fact after Tuesday’s result was clear.

But despite the stiff dose of reality — and House GOP Leader John Boehner’s (Ohio) Tuesday suggestion that sizable changes could be on the way at the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) — little changed immediately Wednesday as Republicans moved past what they hope will be their last competitive special election before November.

…snip…

[NRCC Chairman Tom Cole (Okla.)] said the GOP’s recent special-election problems have more to do with a deficiency in the party’s message and a loss of confidence in its ability to deliver.

Ummmm, I think that people got the party’s message loud and clear from these guys….

Bribed and Groomed

From North County Times:

SAN DIEGO — Showing no emotion and still denying the charges, former defense contractor Brent Wilkes was sentenced Tuesday to 12 years for bribing U.S. Rep Randy “Duke” Cunningham with cash, lavish vacations and evenings with prostitutes.

The Beverly Hil-libbys?

Here’s my pitch to the Hollywood bigwigs for a new TV show: Scooter Libby and Paris Hilton are working on a prison chain gang. They don’t like each other, but when an opportunity to escape arises, they take it, despite being shackled together. They wind up in Beverly Hills, where they try to avoid the authorities, but their freedom is constantly at risk when they are visited by other prison escapees who have gotten wind of their whereabouts. Hilarity ensues when a host of guest stars appear on their doorstep–Tom Delay, Duke Cuningham, Jack Abramoff, and (at a later date) William Jefferson!

Original DVD cover (well, sorta, I can’t find the one that I used).
Of course, I am hoping for a second season in which the guest cast will include Chimpy George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, Al Fredo Alberto Gonzales, Karl Rove, and a slew of others.
