From THE HUFFINGTON POST:
A newly-launched Tea Party caucus in the U.S. Senate will hold its first meeting on January 27, Roll Call reports.
Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), who announced the creation of the political affinity group last week, first spoke of the idea during the 2010 midterm campaign. Shortly after floating the concept, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) took it upon herself to introduce the idea into the U.S. House of Representatives.
Roll Call reports that Sens. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) and Mike Lee (R-Utah) will be members of the new caucus in the upper congressional chamber.

Hey kids, I’m still feeling lousy, but I wanted to post something. I dusted this off, because it stars three senators i detest–Captain Underpants, Lindseypoo, and Joe McLiebercain (now a/k/a Joe Liebermouse). It was originally posted over at Amercian Street on April 9. 2008. Make sure to wash your hands after reading it so you don’t catch the cooties!
The Same Old Song
Hiya, kids! Did you watch the Petraeus/Crocker hearings yesterday? Me, too. Well, I watched part of it. How long do you have to listen to realize that they were saying nothing new? Well, I don’t know about you, kids, but when I get fed up with the world, I listen to music. A confession here–I am not a music aficionado. I couldn’t tell you who sang what song when, with one exception–I played my CD of the Singing Senators until it wore out. I am broken-hearted that they disbanded so abruptly. Without my Singing Senators CD, I had to look for something else to listen to. Well, guess what! There are some brand new singing senators, and they sing in so many different genres! Follow me, kids, and I will show you my new musical collection…..

Did’ya see it, kids? The Three Stooges–Joe McLiebercain, Captain Underpants, and Lindseypoo teamed up and wrote up some advice about Iraq for the new Obama administration. And who wouldn’t want advice from them, especially Captain Underpants!? Remember this scene? From Salon (you might have to click on the enter button over on the right to get to the article):
March 21, 2008 | When John McCain, speaking at a press conference in Amman, Jordan, on Tuesday, accused Iran of harboring and training al-Qaida terrorists, he apologized as soon as Joe Lieberman loudly whispered in his ear that he had uttered a blooper. He withdrew that remark and noted that while the Iranian government is training other “Islamic extremists” across the border, that does not mean they are involved with al-Qaida in Iraq.
Original movie still.

From Frank Rich at The New York Times:
THEY thought they were being so slick. When the McCain campaign abruptly moved last Tuesday’s fund-raiser with President Bush from the Phoenix Convention Center to a private home, it was the next best thing to sending the loathed lame duck into the witness protection program. John McCain and Mr. Bush were caught on camera together for a mere 26 seconds, and at 9 p.m. Eastern time, safely after the networks’ evening newscasts. The two men’s furtive encounter on the Phoenix airport tarmac, as captured by a shaky, inaudible long shot on FoxNews.com, could have been culled from a surveillance video.
But for the McCain campaign, any “Mission Accomplished” high-fives had to be put on hold. That same evening Politico.com broke the news of Scott McClellan’s memoir, and it was soon All Bush All the Time in the mediasphere. Or more to the point: All Iraq All the Time, for the deceitful origins of the war in Iraq are the major focus of the former press secretary’s tell-all.

From Salt Lake Tribune:
The promotion of Gen. David Petraeus is another ominous sign that the Bush administration may attack Iran.
President Bush is nominating Petraeus, commanding general of the Multi-National Force in Iraq, to replace Adm. William Fallon as head of Centcom: U.S. Central Command, which oversees the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Fallon was forced to resign last month after his outspoken opposition to an attack on Iran. Petraeus, by contrast, has been heating up the rhetoric against Iran.
“Iran has fueled the violence in a particularly damaging way through its lethal support to the special groups,” Petraeus testified to Congress in early April. Those special groups (meaning, the militias) pose the biggest threat to the United States, he added.

If anyone else called him “little jerk,” Sen. Lindsey Graham might be offended.
But the jab comes from Sen. John McCain, so he wears it like a badge of honor.
“If John’s not belittling you, you’re in trouble,” Graham said. “He calls me lots of other names, too, but they’re not appropriate for the newspaper.”
McCain and Graham aren’t just friends. They’re inseparable, so much so that colleagues, staffers and journalists have begun making cracks about the relationship between the freshman senator from South Carolina and the man who would be president.

From The New York Times:
WASHINGTON — Declaring that the United States had averted failure in Iraq, President Bush said on Thursday that the senior commander there could “have all the time he needs” before reducing troops further. Mr. Bush ordered shorter tours for troops, but defied calls by Democrats in Congress to withdraw more troops more quickly.

From The NewYork Times:
WASHINGTON — Iraq may be President Bush’s war, but Gen. David H. Petraeus has become its front man: a clear-speaking, politically savvy, post-Vietnam combat veteran with a Ph.D. from Princeton. Given the failures that have plagued the mission from the start, he may yet be Mr. Bush’s best hope for sustaining public support for an unpopular war once his presidency ends.
