From The Detroit News:
The Rick Snyder gubernatorial campaign took a swipe at fellow Republican candidate U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra today, saying he’s inappropriately using the failed Christmas Day terrorist attack at Detroit Metro Airport in an attempt to solicit political donations.
Hoekstra, R-Holland, sent out a fundraising letter today that opens with an account of the incident aboard Flight 253 and closes with this statement: “I know that as governor, my most solemn obligation will be to work every day to make sure that Michigan families are safe … Together, let’s stand up for America, and stand up for Michigan. Please help me fight by making a most generous contribution of $25, $50, $100 or even $250.”

Kids, so sorry, but I’m still feeling craptastic, so I went back to my American Street trough and dug out one of my old favorites. It was originally posted on April 23, 2008. I apologize if some of the links no longer work.
A great big MMMWWAAAHHHHHHHHHH to my dear Raisinettes who have been continuing to visit despite the lack of any new stuff. Hope to be back soon with some new posts and to reply to all of you comments. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy playing Condiland:
A Sweet Little Game for Sweet Little Folks
Hey kids! Are you sick of hearing about Pennsylvania yet? I know I am. I think we need to distract ourselves, and how better than with an old-fashioned board game? I bet the first game that most kids get is Candyland. Well, guess what! There’s a new version out, and I picked one up! Let me share it with you. Welcome to……

From THE SCOTSMAN:
ALLEGATIONS that former US vice-president Dick Cheney ran a secret “black ops” unit inside the CIA for eight years without informing Congress have increased pressure on the White House for a full investigation of alleged abuses of power by the Bush administration.
The unit was so secret that even the former CIA director George Tenet did not control its activities, according to reports yesterday.
You know what that means, kids! It’s time to play…

From The Washington Post:
President-elect Barack Obama said yesterday that he has selected a “top-notch intelligence team” that would provide the “unvarnished” information his administration needs, rather than “what they think the president wants to hear.”
On Capitol Hill, Democrats on the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence were still stewing over Obama not consulting them on the choice before it was leaked Monday and continued to question Panetta’s intelligence experience. Vice President-elect Joseph R. Biden Jr. acknowledged that the transition team had made a “mistake” in not consulting or even notifying congressional leaders, and Obama telephoned committee Chairman Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) and her predecessor, Sen. John D. Rockefeller IV (D-W.Va.), yesterday to apologize.

(CBS) The name Douglas Feith may not mean much to most Americans, but to students of the Iraq War and historians already studying it, he is one of the main architects.

The New Statesman has a fascinating article which you kids simply must read. It is called The fall of Condi.
The US secretary of state was feted as “brilliant” and “gifted”, but her tenure is now acknowledged as a disastrous failure.
Bush adopted Rice – black, and a woman – as a kind of mascot for his administration. He is genuinely fond of her, but that doesn’t mean he has ever paid any serious attention to what his inexperienced appointee has had to say. He always listened much more closely to hugely experienced Washington infighters such as Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld, both of whom considered foreign policy to be part of their portfolios. As national security adviser, Rice flailed around desperately in the middle, letting both men trample all over her, and took command of US foreign policy away from Colin Powell, theoretically Bush’s secretary of state, and his deputy, Richard Armitage. “The calamitous consequences [of this] are likely to be felt for years to come,” says Zbigniew Brzezinski, US national security adviser himself from 1977-81.
