The Lapel Show

It’s official. Lou Dobbs has lost his fucking mind. When he recently went in for a tonsillectomy, did the anesthesiologist turn off the oxygen by mistake? Did the surgeon miss and nip a bit of Lou’s brain instead of his tonsils? Whatever the case, I will repeat–Lou Dobbs has lost his fucking mind.

NEW YORK (CNN) — Lunacy among our public figures in this country certainly didn’t subside over the weeks that I’ve been away from the broadcast. I’ve been no less than astounded by the incongruity, the contradiction, the specious and silly public statements by public and political figures over something like a flag pin worn on one’s lapel.

Like many Americans, I began wearing a flag pin after September 11. I do so out of respect for those killed in the terrorist attacks, and in recognition of this country’s war on radical Islamist terror. It turns out that some journalists and some presidential candidates are uncomfortable and even upset about flags on lapels.

Phony, Boloney, and Maloney

From Media Matters:

On the October 1 edition of Fox News’ The O’Reilly Factor, host Bill O’Reilly discussed conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh’s controversial remarks about “phony soldiers,” and claimed that “Media Matters is peddling that Mr. Limbaugh was denigrating soldiers who dissent from the Iraq War, but that doesn’t seem to be true.” As evidence, O’Reilly aired a clip of Limbaugh claiming that he “was talking about one soldier with that phony soldier comment. Jesse MacBeth.” But O’Reilly did not point out, as Media Matters for America has done, that during the September 26 broadcast of his nationally syndicated radio show, Limbaugh — in his original comments — actually referred to “phony soldiers,” plural. O’Reilly also ignored the fact that Limbaugh did not refer to Jesse MacBeth until one minute and 50 seconds after making his “phony soldiers” comment.

How does he eat with that foot in his mouth?

From The New York Times:

The food, atmosphere and clientele at Sylvia’s were a matter of nationwide attention yesterday because Bill O’Reilly, the Fox News Channel talk show host, recently described being surprised to find that the black-owned establishment was as pleasant as other restaurants.

“It was like going into an Italian restaurant in an all-white suburb in the sense of people were sitting there, and they were ordering and having fun,” Mr. O’Reilly said on his nationally syndicated radio show on Sept. 19. “And there wasn’t any kind of craziness at all.”

No wonder he was surprised. It wasn’t at all like BillO thought it was going to be:

Harlem Slights

From the Washington Post:

NEW YORK — After eating dinner at a famed Harlem restaurant recently, Fox News Channel’s Bill O’Reilly told a radio audience he “couldn’t get over the fact” that there was no difference between the black-run Sylvia’s and other restaurants.

“It was like going into an Italian restaurant in an all-white suburb in the sense of people were sitting there, and they were ordering and having fun,” he said. “And there wasn’t any kind of craziness at all.”
