One of the aides who came in for some of the most blistering criticism was a top campaign strategist, Steve Schmidt, and he’s now punching back. But paybacks can be tough, as Schmidt demonstrated in his appearance on CBS’ “60 Minutes” Sunday night.

Even though reports of agitation between the McCain and Palin camps bubbled up in the final weeks of the campaign, as Barack Obama began pulling away and the GOP duo was unable to regain the momentum, when the defeated team of McCain and Palin split up in Arizona on Wednesday, the personal differences were starkly visible.

Various press accounts suggest that Palin rubbed many of the McCain aides the wrong way. The most recent one, according to published reports, was the election night incident when Palin irked McCain aides saying she wished to make her own concession speech, other than McCain’s.

Samuel Joe Wurzelbacher’s campaign confrontation over tax with Democratic White House hopeful Barack Obama has been seized on by Republican John McCain, who has made the issue a centrepiece of his campaign during the final week of the race.

But now Joe the Plumber has bowed to growing pressure from grassroots Republicans in his home state of Ohio to consider launching his own campaign.

Mr Wurzelbacher told conservative talk show host Laura Ingraham that he is thinking of challenging Democratic Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur in her Toledo area seat in 2010.
