Anchors: A Weigh-in

From The New York Times:

There were no high-tech frills or showy experiments in Diane Sawyer’s brisk first night as anchor of “World News” on ABC. Instead, on Monday, the network draped its star in utter seriousness: Ms. Sawyer gamely sparred with President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran about his country’s nuclear intentions and whether his government oppresses street protesters in Tehran.

Electile Dysfunction

From CITYPAGES:

Speaking before the Minnesota Republican State Central Committee this weekend, Norm Coleman assured those gathered that his unwillingness to recognize the recount tally and a District Court election ruling has nothing to do with him, his political career, or even the Republican Party.

Rather, his refusal to acknowledge reality is due to his love of America.

Fallon on His Sword

We’ve talked about Admiral Fallon before, kids, back on September 10, 2007, and then five days later. Now he has retired, and I am sad to see him go.
From Asia Times:

WASHINGTON – Admiral William Fallon’s request to quit his position as head of the US Central Command (CENTCOM) and to retire from the military was apparently the result of a George W Bush administration decision to pressure him to resign.

Chimpy and Nicky Sittin’ In a Tree….

From Time:

Certain things appear identical on both sides of the Atlantic these days: France and America seem to be friends again; warm relations and mutual esteem have replaced nearly five years of diplomatic disdain; and presidents George Bush and Nicolas Sarkozy may start having regular sleep-overs if they become any better friends.

Ooh, la la!

To the tune of Rosie (from Bye, Bye Birdie), lyrics by Lee Adams, and music by Charles Strouse.
(Sing along with Chimpy and Nic with a little help from youtube!)

Now my life is rosy,
Since I met Sarkozy,
With my sweet Sarkozy,
How could I be blue?
Hand in hand we’ll mosey,
Me and Nic Sarkozy,
We are now so cozy,
So we’ll tell Mahmoud, “Fuck you!”

Mahmoud Gets Schooled

From CNN:

Columbia University president Lee Bollinger took Iran’s president to task Monday, bluntly criticizing his record and saying he exhibits “all the signs of a petty and cruel dictator.”

Bollinger’s assessment came as he introduced Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to an audience of students and faculty.
