Now we know what he’s been doing with his tiny gun for years

“Like most Americans, the president believes we cannot allow a mere allegation, in this case one from many years ago, to destroy a person’s life.”-Sarah Huckabee Sanders

From BUSINESS INSIDER:

  • Republicans are split over what should happen to GOP Senate candidate Roy Moore after Thursday’s revelations about sexual misconduct allegations.
  • Some want him to quit immediately, others are saying he should step aside “if” the accusation that Moore sexually abused a teenager almost 40 years ago is true, and a third camp is defending Moore.

Slaves to Stupidity

From THE IOWA INDEPENDENT:

Former New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson issued a formal campaign statement regarding a 2012 social pledge unveiled by Bob Vander Plaats, labeling it as “offensive to the principles of liberty and freedom on which this country was founded.”

From Johnson’s statement:

Government should not be involved in the bedrooms of consenting adults. I have always been a strong advocate of liberty and freedom from unnecessary government intervention into our lives. The freedoms that our forefathers fought for in this country are sacred and must be preserved. The Republican Party cannot be sidetracked into discussing these morally judgmental issues — such a discussion is simply wrongheaded.

The Mother of All Candidates

From The New York Times:

STILLWATER, Minn. — Nearly two decades ago, a stay-at-home mother and onetime federal tax lawyer named Michele Bachmann felt a spiritual calling to open her clapboard home here to troubled teenage girls.

“We had our five biological children that God gave to us, and then he called us to take foster children into our home,” Mrs. Bachmann told a Christian audience in 2006. “We thought we were going to take unwed mothers in,” she continued, adding, “We took 23 foster children into our home, and raised them, and launched them off into the world.”

Prophetic? Naaahh, Pathetic!

Since one disastrous Texas governor was not enough, there are some in the Rethuglican party who are talking about Governor Little Ricky Goodhair entering the 2012 presidential race.  Like they say in Texas, Oy vey, y’all.

From the Houston Press HAIR BALLS Blog:

Governor Rick Perry appeared on the Fox News network for an interview with Neil Cavuto.

Cavuto made the somewhat dubious statement that Perry is “very popular outside your state, still popular but not nearly as popular within your state.”

…snip…

Asked why Texas wasn’t exactly in love with him, Perry said, “I say that a prophet is generally not loved in their hometown. That’s both Biblical and practical.”

Take 2 Tablets, but Don’t Call Me in the Morning

(Reuters) – A former Alabama judge who gained attention for defying orders to take down a “Ten Commandments” monument from his courthouse said on Monday he was seriously considering running for president.

Roy Moore, a Republican who was removed from Alabama’s Supreme Court by a judicial ethics panel, said he was ready to join the 2012 race.

Because there aren’t enough clowns in the Rethuglican mix now.  By the way, Ol’ Roy may be a religious fanatic, but his campaign posters are rather unorthodox…

Christine O’Donnell Isn’t Foolin’ Around!

From Sam Stein at THE HUFFINGTON POST:

Long before she became the latest fascination of the political press and the cause-of-the-moment of the Tea Party movement, Christine O’Donnell (R-D.E.) was appearing on news outlets large and small extolling the sins of not just sex but masturbation.

The Delaware Republican, who is challenging Rep. Mike Castle in the state’s Senate primary and has earned the financial backing of a portion of the Tea Party movement, made an appearance in the MTV series “Sex In The 90s.” Entitled “The Safest Sex Of All,” the episode was ostensibly geared towards understanding the importance of abstinence. But O’Donnell’s guidance went a bit further. Masturbation, she argued, is not a moral substitute for sex. “The Bible says that lust in your heart is committing adultery. So you can’t masturbate without lust.”

“The reason that you don’t tell [people] that masturbation is the answer to AIDS and all these other problems that come with sex outside of marriage is because again it is not addressing the issue,” she extrapolated. “You’re just gonna create somebody who is, I was gonna say, toying with his sexuality. Pardon the pun.”

The president of Saviors Alliance for Lifting the Truth (SALT), O’Donnell was, at the time, just becoming a visible voice in the pro-“chastity” movement. Her organization, a youth-based group started in 1996 with a focus on establishing conservative Christian values in college-aged kids, made frequent appearances on television in addition to lobbying Congress.

…snip…

In November 1998 […] she wrote a piece for an outlet called the Cultural Dissident, discussing why simply being abstinent was not a lofty enough goal.

Yes, I am a Christian. Yes, I do seek to surrender my entire life to the will of our Father. That is precisely why I don’t talk about abstinence or secondary virginity when I am asked to speak about sex. Abstinence is a physical discipline, not a calling. It makes our physical condition the goal.

Years later, she was part of a group of outraged religious conservatives who criticized President George W. Bush for allowing continued research on 60 stem cell lines that had already been developed (Bush’s position was considered restrictive in its own right). More recently, she suggested that age-appropriate sex education, even for kindergarteners, could convince children that strangers with candy were “not so creepy.”

…snip…

The Castle campaign pledged on Thursday to launch negative advertisements against O’Donnell — a remarkable and undoubtedly unexpected use of funds from a candidate who was supposed to coast to victory.

This Graham Cracker is Stale

Washington (CNN) – Evangelical leader Franklin Graham, son of famed presidential religious adviser Billy Graham, said Thursday that he believes President Barack Obama is a Christian, but that the president was born a Muslim because of his father’s religious beliefs.

Asked by CNN Chief National Correspondent John King if he had any doubts about Obama’s Christian faith, Graham, who has made controversial comments about Islam in the past, said the president’s background is fueling the false perception that he is a Muslim.

“I think the president’s problem is that he was born a Muslim, his father was a Muslim. The seed of Islam is passed through the father like the seed of Judaism is passed through the mother. He was born a Muslim, his father gave him an Islamic name,” Graham said on CNN’s “John King, USA.”
