End of the Road?

From DAILY BEAST:

During the first break in Wednesday’s impeachment hearings—which featured U.S. Ambassador to the EU and million-dollar Trump donor Gordon Sondland implicating President Donald Trump in a quid pro quo with Ukraine—Fox News anchor Chris Wallace declared that Sondland “took out the bus and ran it over” President Donald Trump and a number of his allies and aides.

“I think what Gordon Sondland was trying to do here is protect himself more than he is to protect anybody else,” Wallace said during Fox News’ special coverage.

“To a certain degree, he took out the bus and ran over President Trump, Vice President Pence, Mike Pompeo, John Bolton, Rudy Giuliani, Mick Mulvaney,” he added. “He implicates all of them.”

The Cain Scrutiny

From THE WALL STREET JOURNAL:

GOP presidential candidate Herman Cain has a plan to fix the economy.  Just don’t ask him to tell you who helped him write it.

In an interview on Fox News Sunday, Mr. Cain declared that some of the best economists in this country helped him develop the plan, which he has dubbed the 9-9-9 plan because it would create a 9% flat tax on business and personal income and create a 9% national sales tax.

But Mr. Cain repeatedly refused to name those bright minds when pressed by the show’s host, Chris Wallace.

My unnamed sources have told me where Herman’s unnamed economists come from and why he won’t say who they are.

Flake Eerie

From Slate (6-27-2011):

During his interview of Michele Bachmann last night, Chris Wallace pointedly asked the presidential hopeful, “Are you a flake?” Bachmann was visibly offended. “I think that would be insulting to say something like that,” she shot back , “because I’m a serious person.” Shortly after the interview, the Fox News Sunday Facebook page was flooded with accusations of sexism on Wallace’s part. Politico and the Washington Post speculated today that the interview might enhance Bachmann’s appeal among female voters who’ll now take a sympathetic posture towards her.

In response to the growing chorus of criticism, Wallace issued a video apology this afternoon. “I messed up,” he said, “I didn’t mean any disrespect.”

Who says there are no manufacturing jobs left in America?

From Tim Dickinson at Rolling Stone:

How Roger Ailes Built the Fox News Fear Factory

The onetime Nixon operative has created the most profitable propaganda machine in history. Inside America’s Unfair and Imbalanced Network

The key to decoding Fox News isn’t Bill O’Reilly or Sean Hannity. It isn’t even News Corp. chief Rupert Murdoch. To understand what drives Fox News, and what its true purpose is, you must first understand Chairman [Roger] Ailes. “He is Fox News,” says Jane Hall, a decade-long Fox commentator who defected over Ailes’ embrace of the fear-mongering Glenn Beck. “It’s his vision. It’s a reflection of him.”

Eric Cantor Sucks!

From THINKPROGRESS:

Having secured “draconian” cuts in a last-minute budget deal last week, House Republicans are hyping House Budget Chairman Paul Ryan’s (R-WI) new “Path to Prosperity” plan. The proposal professes to reform programs like Medicare and Medicaid to rein in spending by $6.2 trillion over the next decade. But as the Washington Post’s Ezra Klein notes, Ryan’s Medicare and Medicaid plans “rely on the same bait-and-switch: They use a reform to disguise a cut.” By making Medicare a voucher program and Medicaid a block grant program with $750 billion less in funding, Ryan’s plan forces seniors to pay more for the same benefits, according to the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office, and jeopardizes vital health care services for millions of low-income Americans.

Today on Fox News Sunday, host Chris Wallace questioned House Majority Leader Eric Cantor’s (R-VA) support for a plan in which Americans “pay more out of pocket.” Defending the proposal, Cantor argued that these programs sometimes provide a “safety net” for “people who frankly don’t need one” and that the shift of the burden from the government to the beneficiary will teach government “to do more with less”:

I bet he’ll insist he’s not really Captain Underpants either!

From the Washington Wire at THE WALL STREET JOURNAL:

Sen. John McCain, who was mocked for saying recently that he never considered himself a maverick, when he had repeatedly said just that, sort of took it back on Sunday.

“What I was saying was that I have considered myself a person who is a fighter,” McCain told “Fox News Sunday.” “I wouldn’t be around today if I wasn’t a fighter. I fight for the things that I believe in, and sometimes that’s called a maverick. Sometimes that’s called a partisan. And people can draw their own conclusions.”

CPT2010

From THE HUFFINGTON POST:

While visiting Chicago to support Mark Kirk, John McCain took a moment to defend Sarah Palin’s widely mocked crib notes, written on her hand during the Tea Party Convention last weekend.

“Which is more egregious,” he asked, as if the answer were obvious, “reading from a word on your hand or a teleprompter?”

McCain continued: “I continue to be entertained now by the continuous [hysterical] attacks on Sarah Palin, who [is] very, very popular with a significant segment of the American people.”

Translation: Holy crap, I might lose my Senate seat to J. D. Frickin’ Hayworth, so I have to be nice to this backstabbing bitch so the Teabaggers don’t keep going all nuclear on my ass! I gotta blame someone–I’ve got it 💡 –that damned liberal media! So what if I had them in my pocket (and at my barbecues) for so many years and still show up on every frickin’ Sunday news show? The Teabaggers love to hate the media!

Get Outta Here, Boys, Ya Bug Me!

From David Weigel at THE WASHINGTON INDEPENDENT:

On Monday morning, Joseph Basel and Robert Flanagan, both age 24, dressed up as telephone company workers and walked into the New Orleans office of Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.). Inside the office, waiting for them, was James O’Keefe, the 25-year-old conservative activist who posed as a pimp in 2009 for a series of undercover videos that badly damaged the national community organization ACORN. As Basel and Flanagan clumsily worked on the phones, O’Keefe was recording them for a reason that remains unknown. When the “repairmen” and accomplices were asked for ID, they gave themselves up and were arrested.
