From CROOKS AND LIARS:
Let’s see: There were so many union supporters that Sarah Palin was drowned out at this Madison rally yesterday, yet the AP just can’t estimate how many of the thousands of people who attended were supporting unions. Here’s a clue, guys: They’re not the ones with the misspelled signs:
Capitol Police estimated about 6,500 people converged on the building Saturday, but said it was impossible to tell how many were tea partyers and how many were labor supporters.
Tea party activists are a loose coalition of community groups largely made up of people with conservative views who believe government has grown too large.

I’m watching the Food Channel at the moment, so I thought we’d continue on with our exploration of Rethuglican cuisine. I thought we could take a look at cereal. After all, everyone loves cereal, just ask Mikey!
I bet it tastes even better when topped with Chuckleberries.

In this last post about this round of the 1st Semi-Regular Macaca Awards, let’s remember what the award is all about. Once again, I will borrow the words of my handsome and talented collaborator, Tengrain, of Mock, Paper, Scissors:
It seems so long ago that George Allen uttered the words that moved a generation (and sank his political career), and forever seared the word Macaca into our collective brain.
And so we honor all that is appalling in American Politics with the First Semi-Regular Macaca Awards.

Welcome our special presenters who will be handing out the awards.

From THE TEXAS TRIBUNE:
Dick Armey, the former University of North Texas economics professor, U.S. House majority leader and hired-gun Washington lobbyist, now serves as the chairman of Freedom Works, a nonprofit that bills itself as “dedicated to educating, training, and mobilizing hundreds of thousands of volunteer activists to fight for less government, lower taxes, and more freedom.” With Matt Kibbe, the president and CEO of Freedom Works, he is the co-author of the recently published book Give Us Liberty: A Tea Party Manifesto. A North Dakota native, Armey represented the 26th Congressional District of Texas in the House from 1985 until his retirement in 2003.
Armey talked with the Tribune by phone on Saturday[…]

From Joel Connelly at seattlepi:
As slick attacks on President Obama’s oil spill leadership spread across conservative media — and mainstream Washington, D.C. pundits display their disconnect with America — a defining question gets overlooked.
Do our elected officials’ sympathies lie with what BP’s chairman called the “small people,” those with livelihoods put at jeopardy, or with Big Oil?

From the Cincinnatti Enquirer:
CINCINNATI – Fox News unexpectedly canceled conservative talk show host Sean Hannity’s appearance Thursday night at the Cincinnati Tea Party Tax Day rally, leaving a lot of disappointed fans – and a lot of confusion.
Hannity was scheduled to hold a book-signing and a live taping of his talk show during the event.
Fox News Executive Vice President of Programming Bill Shine issued a statement to the media Thursday evening saying Fox had decided to call Hannity back to New York to do the show because officials believed the Tea Party was using Hannity to make a profit at the event.
Because the tea parties are supposed to make money for Faux News, not the other way around.

From POLITICS DAILY:
Glenn Beck, the Fox News personality and chalkboard scrawling libertarian hero, gave the marquee speech Saturday night at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington.
Swapping out a teleprompter for his famous chalkboard, Beck wowed the faithful with an hour-long presentation that defended conservatism, praised the Founding Fathers and lampooned Washington, D.C. as an addict in need of immediate treatment. He looked to history to predict that without an immediate course correction and reduction of the federal budget deficit, America is headed for “an economic holocaust.”
