Picture Perfect

From U.S. News & World Report:

Both the New Yorker and Newsweek featured profiles on Rep. Michele Bachmann recently.  As Robert Schlesinger points out on the Thomas Jefferson Street blog, the New Yorker profile connects Bachmann with some controversial views on American slavery (an issue that has caused problems for the Bachmann campaign before). The Newsweek profile isn’t exactly kind to the presidential candidate either. However, it is the cover of the magazine that is catching the most attention.

On it, the camera has captured Bachmann looking wide-eyed and surprised above the headline “Queen of Rage.”

I guess, Mr. DeMille, that Botox Batshit Bachmann wasn’t ready for her closeup.

He’d be a party pooper, if he could only find a party that’ll have him!

From Fox News (seriously!):

Rep. Parker Griffith, the Alabama Republican who recently crossed over from the Democratic Party, is facing a mini-revolt from some home-state GOP officials who question his loyalty to his newly adopted party.

The local Republican operations for two counties inside Griffith’s 5th District passed a set of resolutions in the past week urging Republicans to elect anyone but Griffith in the state’s June primary.

The Limestone County Republican Party passed a set of measures Thursday night, one of which called on Griffith to turn over all campaign money he raised as a Democrat and not use any of it in his race for re-election — Griffith’s third-quarter fundraising report showed he had $619,000 on hand. The county party also recommended that Republicans support one of the other two GOP candidates in the race.

The Madison County Republican Party on Monday passed a measure recommending the same thing, as well as urging the congressional delegation and national party not to get involved in the primary.

So how do you like being a Rethuglican now?

Being Stinkin’ Rich Can Be So Taxing

April 18 (Bloomberg) — John McCain, who has clinched the Republican presidential nomination, reported $405,409 in income last year and paid $118,660 in federal taxes, according to tax returns made public today. He gave $105,467 to charity, the records show.

His campaign didn’t release tax returns for his wife, Cindy, who is chairman of the Phoenix-based Hensley & Co., one of the largest beer distributors in the U.S.

McBush

From Think Progress:

Standing at an event this morning with former President George H.W. Bush to receive his and Barbara’s endorsement, McCain was asked whether he “would be in effect carrying out a third Bush term.”

“I’d be honored to have President George Bush’s support, his endorsement,” McCain responded. “And I’d be honored to be anywhere with him under any circumstances.” He added, “I am proud of this president’s strategy in Iraq.”
