“I am serious, and don’t call me Shirley.”

I just read that Leslie Nielsen, one of my favorite actors, died at the age of 84.  I hope he won’t mind if I recycle some of his movies that I already recycled.  I had 2 versions of The Naked Gun, one with Fred Thompson, who was gunnin’ for votes

There’s a Teabag in Every Crappy Meal!

From POST POLITICS at The Washington Post:

Sharron Angle, Nevada’s newly minted Republican Senate nominee, arrived in Washington on Tuesday to court GOP powerbrokers and try to prove that she is ready to take down Majority Leader Harry M. Reid. But as she made the rounds of the senators she came to see, the anti-Washington candidate seemed to go out of her way not to be seen.

All of Angle’s meetings took place behind closed doors, beginning with a stop at the Senate Republicans’ weekly luncheon as the guest of John Ensign (Nev.). She hustled past reporters without saying a word, and remained inside for an hour and a half.

What the article doesn’t tell you is that the gang went over to their favorite haunt, McRonald’s! They had lots of fun, and they were looked over by none other than the ghost of Ronald McReagan.  (If Sue Lowden had won the primary, would they have ordered Chicken McNuggets?)

The Party of No Can’t Keep It Up For Long

From TALKING POINTS MEMO:

The Louisiana Democrats released a snarky little statement today, calling out Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK), who has introduced a health care amendment to the try to prevent states from providing drugs like Viagra to convicted sex offenders.

Said the Dems of Coburn: “Surely he would agree that anyone who has admitted or been found guilty of involvement with prostitution should not be covered either.”

Coburn’s amendment seeks to cut off federal funds to those on Medicaid who are “convicted sex offenders, child molesters, and rapists,” because sexual enhancement drugs are covered under the program.

We reported earlier that the Republican strategy to derail the reconciliation bill is to force Democrats to vote down politically juiced-up amendments so that they can paint Dems as sympathetic to sex offenders and fraudsters in November.

Perhaps the LA Dems had Sen. David Vitter (R-LA), who has been known to dally with prostitutes in the past, on their minds when crafting that statement.

Powerpointing Fingers at Michael Phathead Steele

(AFP) WASHINGTON — US Republicans drew fire this week after the disclosure of an internal fundraising memo that portrays President Barack Obama as the Batman films’ crazed killer “The Joker.”

The Republican National Committee document, first revealed by the online politics publication Politico, also describes fanning fears that Obama is a socialist as a good way to get donors to open their wallets.

“What can you sell when you do not have the White House, the House or the Senate…? Save the country from trending toward Socialism!” it declares, urging fundraisers to harness givers’ “fear” and “reactionary” sentiments.

Heady Lamar

Oh, kids, I know this will break your heart, but there appears to be a rift between the Rethuglican National Committee and some congressmen and senators. A week or so ago (according to POLITICO), John Boohoo Boehner, Mitch No-chin McConnell, Jon I-don’t-need-maternity-care Kyl, John NRA Thune, and Heady Lamar Alexander got in Michael Phathead Steele’s face and told him to lay off on the policy-making. According to me my infallible anonymous sources, Phathead replied that he’s tired of just being a pretty face for the GOP when he goes out on the road and people ask him questions about Rethuglican positions on stuff. Heady Lamar said that it should be elected officials who set policy, called him a “baby, baby, baby,” and directed Phathead to “stick your head in gravy, wash it out with bubblegum, and send it to the Navy.”

Supreme Irony

From abcNEWS:

The Senate voted to confirm Judge Sonia Sotomayor to the U.S. Supreme Court today, making her the first Hispanic Supreme Court justice and just the third woman to sit on the court.

The 55-year-old Sotomayor, who was confirmed by a vote of 68-31, will be sworn in on Saturday at the Court.

Despite strong and vocal opposition from some Senate Republicans, nine GOP senators voted for her confirmation, more than the number of Democrats who supported Justice Samuel Alito, but fewer than the number who crossed party lines to support Chief Justice John Roberts.

One of the Rethug votes against was Captain Underpants. One of the Rethug votes for was Lindseypoo. Does this mean the end of the romance? Nah, they don’t know how to quit each other.

Gunnin’ for Trouble

From The Washington Post:

Senate Democrats are scrambling to produce 40 votes — or a mere two-thirds of their caucus — to defeat a GOP-led push to override state gun laws.

Republicans have twice this year scored significant pro-gun victories with substantial moderate Democratic support. The minority party lured away a whopping 27 swing-state Democrats to support looser rules on guns in national parks. And a similar coalition has stalled the District of Columbia’s quest for House voting representation, by adding language to the Senate version to ease D.C. firearm restrictions.

The latest measure, offered by Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.), has far greater reach. Offered today as an amendment to the Defense Authorization bill, it would allow individuals to carry concealed firearms across state lines if they “have a valid permit or if, under their state of residence, they are entitled to do so,” Thune explained in a statement.

The Rethugs are all about states’ rights, aren’t they?

The Megillah in Wasilla

While Rethuglican TV pundits try to make Palinade out of the lemons Princess Sarah threw them by resigning the governorship of Alaska, there were others who were most likely celebrating. Yeah, I’m talking about the 2012 presidential hopefuls. Good thing they still have the backroom at Denny’s they were partying in when John Ensign and Sparky Marky Mark Sanford put their political ambitions to bed right after they did the same to their mistresses .

(Reuters) – Alaska Governor Sarah Palin said on Friday she will resign this month and will not run for re-election as governor amid speculation that she will seek the Republican party’s nomination for president in 2012.

Palin was Republican presidential candidate John McCain’s running mate in last year’s election and rallied the party’s conservative base.

Following is a list of Republicans seen as potential candidates for their party’s nomination in 2012.
