I Pledge a Grievance to the Flag and the United States of America

From THE HILL:

Congressional leaders have until Aug. 16 to name the 12 members of the newly created “supercommittee” to deal with reducing the deficit, but special interest groups are wasting no time in pushing their choices for the panel.

The debt-ceiling-increase legislation enacted Tuesday created a bicameral, joint committee of 12 legislators charged with finding at least $1.2 trillion in deficit cuts by Nov. 23.

…snip..

Failure to come up with a plan will result in deep automatic defense and Medicare cuts.

One wrong pick, lobbyists on the right and left said Wednesday, could swing the panel toward a terrible compromise. So they are not taking chances.

These sources are already urging leaders to pick top lieutenants who will stick to party positions — no entitlement cuts for Democrats and no tax increases for Republicans.

You’re not the boss of me!

From BUSINESS INSIDER (March 31, 2011):

Last night, Lawrence O’Donnell went on a tirade after showing House Majority Leader Eric Cantor saying that he would pass a bill in the House that would automatically become law if the Senate did not act on it.

…snip…

“Of course, a bill cannot become the law of the land unless passed in word for word identical form by the House and the Senate, and then signed by the President of the United States. Those three things must happen, as every American child knows who has seen any version of how a bill becomes a law, animated or not. No other member of Congress in it’s history has ever believed that a bill could become a law with only one of those three things happening.”

You’re Tho Groth, Man!

From Crooks and Liars:

Wisconsin state Senator Glenn Grothman apparently doesn’t think much of the protesters spending the night in the capitol building and used the excuse that they’re just a bunch of “slobs” trashing the building as the reason why Governor Scott Walker decided to lock them out.

An Hour Later, She Wanted More Classified Information

From The Plum Line at The Washington Post:

There was a hilarious moment on MSNBC just now that underscores just how uncomfortable Christine O’Donnell has made life for GOP leaders: Former RNC chair Ed Gillespie refused to disavow O’Donnell’s claim that she possesses classified information on China’s secret plot to take over America.

Not only that, but Gillespie actually flirted with endorsing her assertion that she has some sort of information about some sort of scheme, though he allowed that he couldn’t be sure whether or not that info was classified.
