From El Paso Times:
HOUSTON — Spotlights shined on a stage that seemed set for a massive rock concert.
Three 18-by-24-foot projection screens allowed an estimated 30,000 people to watch and pray, sometimes on their knees, as Texas Gov. Rick Perry and other speakers took the stage and called on God to lead “a nation in crisis.”
Attendees at The Response, a Christian prayer event and brainchild of Perry, at times appeared as if they were at a rock performance: raising their arms in the air, weeping and singing along to lyrics that included “God end abortion.”
And, like a rock star, Perry, 61, beamed as he twice walked on stage to adoring fans or, in this case, the conservative Christians he eagerly hopes to woo as he weighs his national political aspirations.

From THE IOWA INDEPENDENT:
Former New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson issued a formal campaign statement regarding a 2012 social pledge unveiled by Bob Vander Plaats, labeling it as “offensive to the principles of liberty and freedom on which this country was founded.”
From Johnson’s statement:
Government should not be involved in the bedrooms of consenting adults. I have always been a strong advocate of liberty and freedom from unnecessary government intervention into our lives. The freedoms that our forefathers fought for in this country are sacred and must be preserved. The Republican Party cannot be sidetracked into discussing these morally judgmental issues — such a discussion is simply wrongheaded.

From Alex Moore at death+taxes:
The economic stimulus package enacted in 2008 has created approximately 2.4 million jobs. We know this, in part, because last Friday the Obama Administration’s Economic Advisers Council released a report on the effects of the stimulus package, which said it “has raised employment relative to what it otherwise would have been by between 2.4 and 3.6 million.”
It is possible that the stimulus created fewer jobs than expected, because last year economists predicted that it would create 2.8 million jobs, and now it appears possible that it created only 2.4 million jobs.
This morning presidential Rick Santorum appeared on CNN’s “American Morning” and insisted that stimulus was supposed to create 280 million jobs and instead it had created 240 million jobs—and had therefore cost us the difference of 40 million jobs.
