Nekkid Scotty Needs a Dressing Down!

From POLITICAL HOTSHEET at CBS NEWS:

The office of Republican Sen. Scott Brown of Massachusetts is blaming a technical error for the fact that comments attributed to Brown posted to his campaign website were lifted verbatim from former Sen. Elizabeth Dole.

…snip…

“I was raised to believe that there are no limits to individual achievement and no excuses to justify indifference,” Brown was quoted as saying on his site in comments that were removed earlier this week. “From an early age, I was taught that success is measured not in material accumulations, but in service to others. I was encouraged to join causes larger than myself, to pursue positive change through a sense of mission, and to stand up for what I believe.”

Dole, the former North Carolina Republican senator, used those exact words in kicking off her campaign in 2002.

I wonder if Bob Dole knows about this.  This is on top of Nekkid Liddy Scotty stupidly insulting Elizabeth Warren and pissing off a lot of women with a sexist remark.  No worries, kids.  Problems solved!!

The only jobs they create are snow jobs

From UNION LEADER:

THE JOBS DEBATE CONTINUES. Former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman’s campaign is not-so-subtly firing back at Mitt Romney in a continuation of a dispute that began earlier this week over Romney’s job creation record in Massachusetts.

Today, Huntsman’s spokesman is suggesting that there was a downside to the decline in the unemployment rate during the Romney years as governor of the Bay State: the out-migration of the state’s population to other states, including New Hampshire.

Huntsman’s campaign on Tuesday accused Romney of misrepresenting his record on jobs creation as governor, noting that Massachusetts ranked 47th in the nation in that category during the Romney years of 2003 to 2007.

Planned Parenthoodwinked

From The New York Times:

In a signal that Senate Republicans will not be automatically aligning with their brethren in the House over the course of a vast and raucous spending debate, Senator Scott Brown of Massachusetts said on Tuesday that he did not support eliminating federal financing of Planned Parenthood, a move approved by the House last month as part of a larger spending bill.

The New New Hampshire, Now Located in Massachusetts

From politicalticker at CNN:

At a time when the former Alaska governor appears to be shrinking from the spotlight, Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann is stepping up as yet another favorite daughter of the conservative movement.

In recent television appearances, political activities and speaking engagements, Bachmann has matched Palin’s slams against President Obama and garnered seemingly equal affection from conservative activists.

But it remains to be seen whether embarrassing and highly publicized gaffes will affect her presidential chances.

An Earmark By Any Other Name Would Smell as Expensive

From THINK PROGRESS:

Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) likes to tout his opposition to earmarks. Indeed, since first entering Congress in 1991, the congressman has never requested a single earmark. And one of his caucus’s first moves in the new Congress has been to renew a voluntary earmark ban in the House of Representatives, making good on a major campaign promise. Yet as CAP [Center for American Progress] Senior Fellow Scott Lilly reveals in a new analysis, “No, He Wouldn’t—Would He?,” Boehner and House Republicans appear to have included an earmark-in-all-but-name for the new Speaker’s district in the newly released House Appropriations Continuing Resolution (CR).

Boohoo Boehner Blinks, Yertle McConnell Stinks

From The Boston Globe:

WASHINGTON — Senate Republicans, including Scott Brown of Massachusetts, said yesterday they are opposed to an extension of tax cuts for middle-income families unless cuts also are extended for the wealthiest Americans, setting up a defining showdown with President Obama in the run-up to November’s midterm elections.

The Senate signaled its determination after the Republican leader in the House, Representative John A. Boehner of Ohio, stunned Washington on Sunday by saying he was ready to compromise as a last resort and back Obama’s plan to extend cuts for middle-income families while letting those for the highest wage earners expire.

Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell dug in with an all-or-nothing approach and his spokesman said he had enough votes to block anything that falls short of a continuation of cuts for taxpayers in every bracket.

A Sorry Excuse for a Congressman

From POLITICAL HOTSHEET at CBS NEWS:

BP CEO Tony Hayward [was] in the midst of a harsh grilling today on Capitol Hill, where he [was] testifying House Committee on Energy and Commerce hearing on “The Role of BP in the Deepwater Horizon Explosion and Oil Spill.”

But not long after the hearing began, Hayward got something not many expected from lawmakers: An apology.

Rep. Joe Barton of Texas, the top Republican on the committee, apologized to Hayward for what he described as a “shakedown” at the White House yesterday. He was referring to the deal worked out between the Obama administration and BP to set up a $20 billion fund administered by a third party to pay for damages from the catastrophic oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

Echoing the recent report of the Kings County, NY, District Attorney who completed a five-month probe finding “no criminality” seen in video tapes secretly taken of low-level ACORN and ACORN Housing workers last year in New York, California’s Attorney General has now reached a similar conclusion regarding videos recorded in three different cities in the Golden State last Summer, according to a report released today which finds the workers “committed no violation of criminal law.”
