Sleazy Returns to the Big Easy

(CNN) — Michael Brown, the Federal Emergency Management Agency leader who quit following widespread criticism of the government’s response to Hurricane Katrina, is taking his radio show to New Orleans, Louisiana, on Wednesday and Thursday.

Brown, who is on KOA-850 AM in Denver, Colorado, confirmed his plans to CNN.

Cheesy in the Big Easy

From The New York Times:

NEW ORLEANS — Should Republicans be the party of no? Or the party of yes?

There was a hint of disagreement on that count as a parade of Republicans took the stage here on Friday at one of the largest party gatherings — Sarah Palin rallies not included — since the Republican National Convention two years ago.

Grand Old Party? No, Just Grandstanding!

From the Los Angeles Times:

Reporting from Columbia, S.C. — Would a governor in a state with the third-highest unemployment rate in the nation really say no to President Obama’s stimulus money?

That is the question reverberating through South Carolina, where Republican Mark Sanford — a popular second-term governor and noted fiscal conservative — says he may reject some of the $2.8 billion in federal funds headed to his state.

Some observers suspect that the governor, who is regularly mentioned as a presidential contender in 2012, is just grandstanding. It’s hard for them to imagine a lawmaker leaving millions of dollars on the table in a state with a 9.5% unemployment rate — one that has cut hundreds of millions from its budget in recent months, and will cut millions more in the next fiscal year.

X the new W, Cafferty tells you Y

I had no internets connection last night (thank you, Tropical Storm or Hurricane Fay) , so, in order to have a poster for you kids tonight, I had to rely on what I had on my computer. I found a comic book cover that I didn’t even remember I had and thought I would go with that. Of course, that means I had to find a story to match it, and I came across this from Jack Cafferty at CNN :

Commentary: Is McCain another George W. Bush?

NEW YORK (CNN) — Russia invades Georgia and President Bush goes on vacation. Our president has spent one-third of his entire two terms in office either at Camp David, Maryland, or at Crawford, Texas, on vacation.

His time away from the Oval Office included the month leading up to 9/11, when there were signs Osama bin Laden was planning to attack America, and the time Hurricane Katrina destroyed the city of New Orleans.

Sen. John McCain takes weekends off and limits his campaign events to one a day. He made an exception for the religious forum on Saturday at Saddleback Church in Southern California.

He Puts the Ass in Disaster

From The New York Times:

IOWA CITY — Try as he might, President Bush cannot escape the haunting memory of Hurricane Katrina.

Mr. Bush toured flood-stricken areas here on Thursday, the latest in a string of disaster-zone visits he has made in his role as comforter in chief.

As always, he gave solace and prayers and hopeful words; he called Iowans a “tough-minded people” who would “come back better.” As always, he met the governor and local mayors, pored over maps, dropped in on a shelter, promised federal aid. As always, he brought with him R. David Paulison, the administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, a man so skilled at Hurricane Katrina comparisons that he no longer has to be asked.

Big Bad John

Oh, kids!! Didja watch the video of John Cornyn that they played at the Texas State Republican Convention in Houston? Hi-larious!!! You can watch it at Burnt Orange. Go ahead, kids, watch it. I’ll wait for you.
All done? Well, it seems that Senator Corny (no, that’s not a typo) realizes that it didn’t go over very well, so I thought I would help him out (because you know I am always helpful to the Rethugs, kids) and rewrite it for him. I hope he likes this version! 😀
To the tune of Big Bad John, written by Jimmy Dean (Johnny Cash version):

(Screw John)
(Screw John)

He strolls through the Senate, like he owns the place,
A swagger in his step, and a smirk on his face,
Narrow of mind, and flappin’ his lip,
But he’s nasty and stupid, moronic and flip, so screw John.

(Screw John)
(Screw John)
Screw you, John
(Screw John)

Getting Back to Fundie-mentals

LOS ANGELES (MarketWatch) — John McCain on Thursday rejected the endorsement of televangelist John Hagee after it was reported that the pastor once argued the Nazis operated on God’s behalf to root out Jews in Europe and get them to Palestine.
McCain’s rejection of Hagee was followed by the pastor’s withdrawal of his endorsement of the Arizona senator. Hagee had said in March that McCain sought his endorsement, but McCain has found himself repudiating a number of controversial remarks made by the minister since then.
