The Sheriff of Nuttyham

From THINK PROGRESS SECURITY:

The birther movement, thought dead by multiple debunkings and the release of President Obama’s actual birth certificate, was thrust back into the national spotlight this week when Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R), a former frontrunner in the race for the GOP’s presidential nomination, called birtherism “a good issue to keep alive” and claimed he wasn’t sure where Obama was born.

…snip…

This week, birther queen Orly Taitz joined radical Arizona immigration sheriff Joe Arpaio — who is conducting his own investigation into Obama’s birthplace — at a Tea Party town hall in Arizona, where she sought to provide Arpaio with further evidence to bolster his case. Arpaio, however, surprised the crowd by telling Taitz that he has evidence even she doesn’t have. And though he can’t tell her, or anyone else, what it is, he promises it will surprise even the harshest critics of the birtherism movement […]

Birthers of a Nation

From DORIAN DE WIND at The Moderate Voice:

A few months ago, I commented on a piece by Pulitzer Prize winner Leonard Pitts at the Miami Herald calling birthers “morons,” ”jackasses,” “imbeciles,” “idiots,” “doofuses” and “pinheads.”

He also called the birther movement “not just claptrap, but profoundly racist claptrap.”

I said, “While I agree with Pitts on the claptrap, I would not call the birthers morons, imbeciles, idiots, etc. I believe that these people, especially the founders and leaders of this ‘movement,’ are extremely intelligent, capable and resourceful,” and gave some examples to back my claim up:

How else would a movement that started in mid-2008, following Obama’s win in the Democratic primaries be able to convince, a mere two years later, 20 percent of all Americans and 30 percent of Tea Partiers into believing that the president was not born in the United States?

How else would people such as Andy Martin (known as “King of the Birthers”), Jerome Corsi (of John Kerry swift-boating fame), Alan Keyes, Orly Taitz, etc., be able to convince a majority (51 percent) of likely Republican presidential primary voters that the president was born in another country? (2011 survey from Public Policy Polling)

How else could this movement attract reputable and intelligent Republican Party leaders, notables and pundits such as Senator Richard Shelby, Tracey Mann, Liz Cheney, Rush Limbaugh, Lou Dobbs, Sean Hannity, Camille Paglia and others to grant the movement legitimacy, to defend the birthers or at a minimum to humor these conspiracy-minded people?

Happy Birther to You!

From Salon:

President Obama released his long-form birth certificate months ago, but leading Birther activist Orly Taitz is still insisting to anyone who will listen that the president is not a natural-born citizen. Last Thursday she traveled to Capitol Hill to make her pitch to staffers for some of the most influential conservative members of Congress, some of whom were apparently quite receptive to her message.

Taitz told me she flew on the red-eye from her home state of California to Washington  for a series of meetings on Thursday with aides to Reps. Steve King (R-IA) and Allen West (R-FL), and Sens. Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Jim Inhofe (R-OK), among others.

“The ones that were most positive was a meeting with two counsels for Marco Rubio. They read all the pleadings, they are aware of the issues,” said Taitz, reached at her Orange County dental office.

Ethel Taitz

From the LAS VEGAS SUN:

Orly Taitz, the self-appointed “queen of the birthers,” has endorsed Republican U.S. Senate candidate Sharron Angle.

Taitz today asked supporters to donate money to Angle’s campaign and to visit Las Vegas to stump for the Tea Party darling.

I bet Sharron the Obtuse Angle is sooooo excited over getting an endorsement from someone so widely well-respected. That takes the sting out of having to wear a socialist hat that had to be approved and certified healthy by the CDC. If only everyone had listened to Congressman and medical doctor, Paul Broun (R-BATSHITVILLE).

Supreme Wackadoodle

From the ledger-enquirer:

So-called “birther” attorney Orly Taitz has resubmitted an application to the U.S. Supreme Court, asking that $20,000 in sanctions imposed by a federal judge in Columbus be reversed.

Taitz has represented two people in Columbus who questioned their military orders on arguments that President Barack Obama couldn’t legitimately hold office. It was the case of Capt. Connie Rhodes that led U.S. District Court Judge Clay Land to sanction Taitz after he warned her and then gave her a time limit to explain why he shouldn’t fine her.

The sanctions came in October 2009, and Taitz appealed to the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta. That court upheld the sanctions in May, and Taitz sent an application for stay to U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas on July 8.
