From Joe Coscarelli at Press Clips (blog) at the village VOICE:
As interest in Anthony Weiner’s penis and the dirty messages that brought it out to play begins to wane, we focus instead on the media coverage of Anthony Weiner, thereby proliferating Anthony Weiner coverage. Hm! It’s a conundrum, especially for those who go on television to proclaim, “The degree of piling on: the way it hijacks cable news, the way it hijacks the morning shows, the way it is all over the Internet says to me that we are more interested in covering salacious topics than matters of the economy, on matters of war and peace,” while simultaneously writing for a news organization doing just that. Oh, hello there — Howard Kurtz, is that you? Why yes, it is.

We’ve focused on comic book and book covers, and today I thought we’d concentrate on the characters. When I was little, I always read Blondie comics, and my favorite characters were Dagwood and his boss, Mr. Dithers. I did a bit of a update during the Chimpy administration years. Here’s Chimpy with his boss, Deadeye Dick Cheney (with an appearance at the end by Laura Pickles Bush and Barney). Of course, Deadeye Dick never dithered…

There are some cartoon characters who start out in the funnies and then show up in books. For example, there’s Little Orphan Annie. It was a daily comic strip written and drawn by Harold Gray. It ran for 86 years, ending in June 2010. We don’t have to miss it, though, as Governor Jan Brewer has taken her place. Makes sense to me, as Governor Jan sorta looks like a Leapin’ Lizard. You probably heard the sad story Jan tells about her father dying while fighting the Germans in World War II. Such a good story. Too bad it wasn’t true…

Hey, kids,it seems that these days, everyone is getting a book deal. I thought we’d take a look back at some books of the recent past. There’s been a lot of talk lately about WikiLeaks, but where was all the Rethuglican hanky-wringing when Scooter Libby outed Valerie Plame, a covert CIA agent? They want to string up Julian Assange, but they seemed to be just fine when Chimpy commuted Scooterpie’s sentence, because Scootie has “suffered enough“…

Well, kids, we’ve been focusing on food, but how about fast food? What’s your favorite place? Bob’s Big Boy, perhaps?
If they had that statue of St. Ronnie at Big Boy, I bet all the Rethugs would be eating there! If it gets too crowded, though, maybe they should consider rolling out this version…
Back in January of last year, I wrote a diary over at the Big Orange with suggested hairstyles for whackadoodle (I mean, allegedly whackadoodle) Illinois ex-governor, Rod Blagojevich. I wanted to make sure he made a good impression on the jury. Yesterday, we talked about Carly Fiorina and her remark about Barbara Boxer’s hairdo being “so yesterday.” Now, we know that Carly’s hair is growing out after undergoing treatment for breast cancer, so I thought we would try to help her pick out a new style, if for no other reason than to show how bipartisan my advice is.
Here’s the first suggestion. Marge Simpson is a stay-at-home mother of three. I think that would sell well with the Tea Party base and evangelicals.

From IMBd (The Jerk):
Navin R. Johnson: Huh? I am not a bum. I’m a jerk. I once had wealth, power, and the love of a beautiful woman. Now I only have two things: my friends and… uh… my thermos. Huh? My story? Okay. It was never easy for me. I was born a poor black child. I remember the days, sittin’ on the porch with my family, singin’ and dancin’ down in Mississippi.
Rod Blagojevich:I’m blacker than Barack Obama. I shined shoes. I grew up in a five-room apartment. My father had a little laundromat in a black community not far from where we lived, I saw it all growing up.
I kid you not.

From CHICAGO SUN-TIMES:
Former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich. Rock-star wife/TV personality Sharon Osbourne. Pro wrestler/actor Goldberg. Comic Sinbad.
Toss in a couple of former athletes, Australian TV chef Curtis Stone and Victoria’s Secret model Selita Ebanks, and you have most of the season 3 cast of “The Celebrity Apprentice.”
Why, that’s Fantasia…I mean, fantastic!
Donald Trump looks better, doesn’t he? I think he’s finally done something with his hair.
