Gohmert Pile (of Poop)

From POLITICO:

Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Tex.), who is about as conservative on homeland security as anybody living above ground, was on FOX last night riffing about the potential motivations of New Yorkers who actually want terrorists tried on their home soil.

He went on to provide a helpful list of potential weak spots that a well-informed terrorist — say someone who watched Louie Gohmert on FOX — might target during the trials.

The Bratz Pack

Hi Kids!!! Didja miss me? It’s been a electronic nightmare ’round here. My computer got infected with something (I suspect some nefarious rethuglican plot) to the point where I couldn’t even play solitaire. The offspring had to go all nuclear on it–scrub it clean and start from scratch. Well, I can play solitaire again, and I loaded up Photoshop again (took 4 tries, and it’s a friggin’ mess–lost all my fonts and the old pics don’t work with whatever PS did to update the program). Anyway, I’m happy to be back, and I was thrilled to see that you guys hung around in my absence. I’ll try my best to answer the comments you left.

I didn’t have a chance to do lots of research on anything, so I went with a sure thing–what hasn’t changed is that the Rethugs are as rabid as ever.

Betsy and the Bubbleheads

From TALKING POINTS MEMO:

In a heated and sometimes vitriolic debate Monday night, Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-NY) repeatedly called out former Lt. Gov. Betsy McCaughey for lying about health care reform. He said debating her was like “debating a pyromaniac in a straw man factory,” prompting intense and immediate reaction from the audience.

“Debate like a man!” hollered one bespectacled, middle-aged man. Another quieted the ensuing shouts with, “This is his speaking time, not yours!”

Weiner and McCaughey arguably represent the furthest ends of the health care reform spectrum. Weiner is a progressive Congressman who wants a single-payer, government run health care system. McCaughey, who recently posited that reform may lead to government-mandated euthanasia, helped kill the Clintons’ health care plan in the 90s.

If you’re stupid, and you know it, flap your lips!

From MEDIA MATTERS:

Today, in a long speech on the House floor, Rep. Phil Gingrey (R-GA) laid out his case against health care reform. On top of the usual talk about a “government takeover” and “socialized medicine,” Gingrey stressed his belief that, in the midst of a recession, improving the nation’s ailing health care system shouldn’t be President Obama’s top priority. Gingrey acknowledged that 14,000 Americans are losing their health insurance every day, but literally laughed off the notion that this constitutes a health care crisis. Rather, he said, “14,000 people are losing their health insurance every day NOT because of the cost of health insurance [laughs], they’re losing it because they lost their job!”

Yeah, Phil, that’s just hilarious!!

From Scooby-Doo to Just Plain Doo-Doo

From The Boston Globe:

Happy birthday, Scooby-Doo.

Forty falls ago, the cartoon canine and his human cohorts – fellow chicken-heart and chowhound Shaggy, brainy Velma, curvaceous Daphne, and Freddie, the unofficial leader of the gang – debuted on Saturday morning television. From the age of Nixon to the age of Obama, they’ve exposed seemingly supernatural monsters as human criminals in disguise, many of whom, upon being unmasked, curse those “meddling kids’’ and their dog.

Kids, I apologize for allowing this momentous occasion to pass without a word. Perhaps I blocked out this happy news, because I was thinking about another cartoon enterprise that was a major failure. Yes, I’m talking about GOP Wingnut Studio’s knockoff (because they haven’t had an original idea in decades) Scooby-Don’t.

Fear Factor: the House of Reprehensibles

From POLITICO:

Sean Hannity believes it. So does House Minority Leader John Boehner. Talk show host Fred Thompson calls it “the dirty little secret” of the health care reform debate.

The focus of their ire is a provision tucked deep inside the House bill that would provide Medicare coverage for an end-of-life consultation once every five years. If a person falls ill with a life-threatening disease, more frequent sessions would be allowed.

Republicans are now using this language as a wedge between senior citizens and Democrats. Boehner and Republican Policy Committee Chairman Thaddeus McCotter (R-Mich.) issued a statement last week saying it “may start us down a treacherous path toward government-encouraged euthanasia” — even though the concept behind the provision has been embodied in federal law since 1990 and has been promoted by Republicans and Democrats for years.

Fear Factor

From THE HUFFINGTON POST:

The contest to be the member of Congress saying the dumbest possible things about health care has just gotten ratcheted up about a thousand more notches, thanks to North Carolina Representative Virginia Foxx. Foxx, if you recall, was the congressional luminary who declared the story of Matthew Shepard’s murder a “hoax,” right in front of Shepard’s mother. She’s a delight for the senses, especially the stupid ones!

Anyway, today she came up with a brand new health care reform objection when she said that the Republican health care plan — whatever that is! — would “make sure we bring down the cost of health care for all Americans and that ensures affordable access for all Americans and is pro-life because it will not put seniors in a position of being put to death by their government.”

Mixed Wingnuts

Hey kids! Have you heard? The Rethugs have a strategery! Nope, I’m not kidding! Don’t believe me? Well, maybe you’ll believe the guys at Politico:

Peril awaits any first-term lawmaker who ventures to the House floor unprepared for a duel, but Ohio Democrat Mary Jo Kilroy had a particularly rough go of it the other day.

Kilroy took the floor to support an amendment to a popular public-service bill — only to face an ambush from Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-N.C.), who hit her hard for her vote on an unrelated American International Group measure.

It wasn’t an accident.

Foxx is part of a team of Republican members that House Minority Whip Eric Cantor (R-Va.) has put together to create embarrassing, YouTube-worthy moments for vulnerable Democratic freshmen.
