The contest to be the member of Congress saying the dumbest possible things about health care has just gotten ratcheted up about a thousand more notches, thanks to North Carolina Representative Virginia Foxx. Foxx, if you recall, was the congressional luminary who declared the story of Matthew Shepard’s murder a “hoax,” right in front of Shepard’s mother. She’s a delight for the senses, especially the stupid ones!
Anyway, today she came up with a brand new health care reform objection when she said that the Republican health care plan — whatever that is! — would “make sure we bring down the cost of health care for all Americans and that ensures affordable access for all Americans and is pro-life because it will not put seniors in a position of being put to death by their government.”

Louie Gohmert (R-TX) recently appeared on the radical right-wing radio show of Alex Jones and the two happily traded conspiracy theories, which touched on the more wackier pearls of Conservative fringe wisdom, including claims that the White house is spiking our water with drugs to sterilize the whole country and comparing Obama’s policies to Hitler and Chairman Mao.
Rep. Gohmert spoke for thirty minutes and engaged in the Republican fear-mongering about the inclusion of a public option in health care reform, claiming it “is going to absolutely kill senior citizens. They’ll put them on lists and force them to die early because they won’t get the treatment as early as they need,” said the Congressman.
Gohmert also claimed that a public health option would empower the government with “…every right to tell you what you eat, what you drink, how you exercise, where you live.” Gohmert didn’t stop there; he was on a roll.
The excited Congressman then tried his hardest to make an analogy between a recent bill to humanely manage the wild mustang population, entitled “Restore Our American Mustangs Act,” and government run health care that would somehow force people to use contraception against their will.
“But if we’re going to pay 700 million dollars like we voted last Friday to put condoms on wild horses, and I know it just says an un-permanent enhanced contraception whatever the heck that is. I guess it follows that they’re eventually get around to doing it to us,” said Gohmert.

In a speech on the House floor this afternoon [June 10th], Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA) railed against health care reform. Specifically, Broun attacked the idea of a public plan, saying “this program of ‘government option’ is being touted as being the panacea, the savior of allowing people to have quality health care at an affordable price is gonna kill people.” Broun pointed to Canada and the United Kingdom in his argument against the public option, claiming that those countries “don’t have the appreciation of life as we do in our society.”
As Media Matters Action points out, Canada and the United Kingdom actually enjoy both a lower infant mortality rate and longer life expectancy than the United States.

it’s just ridiculous. all the bill does is allow people to choose what they want done in case they are near death, instead of leaving the choice up to their families. if they want extraordinary measures used to keep them alive, then that’s what they’ll get. if they choose to be take off life support, then they will be allowed to die with dignity. if terry schiavo had had a living will, that entire fiasco would not have taken place.

Well, Tweety was having a cow over this on his show this evening too. He was just having fits that the amendment for a Living Will to be in HR3200 at all. He said it didn’t need to be in there, just as there should be no reproductive rights legislation in the bill either.
He sounded like he was taking Foxx’s side of the argument.
i saw that, annette. the correct response to that would have been 2 words–terry schiavo. if she had had a living will, the entire circus that played out around her would have been completely unnecessary. you don’t have to be of retirement age to think about end of life issues. i wanted to smack tweety–even more than i usually do!

he can be very, very good. he has an excellent grasp of history. on the other hand, he can be a real ass. he’s very loud, and he rarely allows anyone else to finish a thought. he sees everything through a pennsylvania/catholic perspective, and he has a hard time seeing other people’s viewpoints. he’s also been in the bubble a bit too long. he’s worked in d.c. for a long time, and though he likes to think he knows what the average joe out there is thinking, he really has no clue whatsoever.
Virginia Foxx looks like she should be photoshopped onto the Church Lady’s body. As for Gohmert, one should know him by the company he keeps. Alex Jones is a notorious tinfoil-hatter whose Infowars site is listed as cranky for both politics and conspiracies by Crank Dot Net.

With regard to the previous votes on this bill in the House, to be specific, 227 Democrats voted “aye,” 67 Republicans voted “aye,” which also was about the same numbers, similar numbers, that voted for the bailout back in September, which was also a huge mistake. There was one Democrat that voted “no” and 118 Republicans that voted “no.”
But we are even in different times now. We are still borrowing money from the Chinese. And, once again, the irony here is incredible. We are going to borrow more money from the Chinese to possibly give them money back to create habitats for wild dogs and cats that are rare.
There is no assurance that if we did that we wouldn’t end up with moo goo dog pan or moo goo cat pan. There is no way to assure that money will not be wasted when it’s sent to foreign countries.

A trillion dollar taxpayer funded private health insurance bailout is all you really get without a robust government-run public option available on day one. Co-OP’s ARE NOT A SUBSTITUTE FOR A GOVERNMENT-RUN PUBLIC OPTION. They are a fraud being pushed by the GREED DRIVEN PRIVATE FOR PROFIT health insurance industry that is KILLING YOU!

Republicans and their traitorous allies have been trying to make it look like it’s President Obama’s fault for the delays, and foot dragging. But I think you all know better than that. President Obama inherited one of the worst government catastrophes in American history from these REPUBLICANS! And President Obama has done a brilliant job of turning things around, and working his heart out for all of us.
But Republicans think you are just a bunch of stupid, idiot, cash cows with short memories. Just like they did under the Bush administration when they helped Bush and Cheney rape America and the rest of the World.
But you don’t have to put up with that. And this is what you can do. The Republicans below will be up for reelection on November 2, 2010. Just a little over 13 months from now. And many of you will be able to vote early. So pick some names and tell their voters that their representatives (by name) are obstructing TRUE healthcare reform. And are sellouts to the insurance and medical lobbyist.
Ask them to contact their representatives and tell them that they are going to work to throw them out of office on November 2, 2010, if not before by impeachment, or recall elections. Doing this will give you something more to do to make things better in America. And it will help you feel better too.
There are many resources on the internet that can help you find people to call and contact. For example, many social networking sites can be searched by state, city, or University. Be inventive and creative. I can think of many ways to do this. But be nice. These are your neighbors. And most will want to help.
I know there are a few democrats that have been trying to obstruct TRUE healthcare reform too. But the main problem is the Bush Republicans. Removing them is the best thing tactically to do. On the other hand. If you can easily replace a democrat obstructionist with a supportive democrat, DO IT!
You have been AMAZING!!! my people. Don’t loose heart. You knew it wasn’t going to be easy saving the World. 🙂

My mom believes this crap. I love my mom to death, but I can’t talk to her about religion or politics, which ss odd because she’s no dummy, but she does by into FOX News, hook, line and sinker. It hurts knowing she thinks this way, but I just chalk it up to her getting old and the right wing playing upon the natural fearfulness of the elderly. That’s how I choose to see it in this case, anway.

i understand your frustration, zirgar. i honestly can’t understand why older people feel comfortable watching faux news, even the intelligent ones. i guess the world is changing too quickly for them, and faux provides some kind of confirmation for all their fears. sometimes anger is used to counteract fear, so faux stirs up the anger.
It’s not just the old.. my daughter is 36 and she thinks it is the right (no pun intended) thing to do too. She is enamoured of Hannity and believes every word that comes out of his mouth even when I show her he is lying. But the absolute worse thing for me is that she has gotten my 2 granddaughters brain washed along with her and they are only 15 and 9. They spout the GOP talking points as well as some of the talking heads do on my TeeVee Machine.. as a consequence I don’t even get to see them now.. It has really been hard and that’s part of what I have been going through.. So I can feel the pain and frustration that Zirgar is talking about..
