Writers’ Schlock

From twitchy:

Blame Matt Yglesias for setting off Monday’s torrent of fake news about Chelsea Clinton with a tweet suggesting she’s running for office, which of course she’s never said she’s doing.

You can click over there and read the collection of tweets (because I still can’t figure out how to embed tweets here). I want to focus on some of the male  journalists who have nothing more important to do than to diss Chelsea. Among them: the aforementioned Matt Yglesias, Josh Barro, and CNN’s new hire Chris Cillizza.

Chris Cillizza indicates the size of their collective weewees as Matt Yglesias and Josh Barro look on.

Brittle Foxes

From David Zurawik at THE BALTIMORE SUN:

It was hard to imagine a news organization taking any hit comparable to the one Fox News did in August when founder Roger Ailes was pushed out amid charges of sexual harassment.

But the news today that Bill O’Reilly would not be returning to the highest rated show on cable news might be even bigger, because of his status as an on-air personality and the foundation of an incomparable primetime ratings lineup.

“All The Views Are Fit to Print”

From MEDIA MATTERS:

The New York Times hired Wall Street Journal deputy editor Bret Stephens as its newest opinion columnist, claiming he “will bring a new perspective to bear on the news.” Stephens has a long history of promoting misinformation, including on climate science, foreign policy, and sexual assault.

Who needs a gag order? I haven’t stopped gagging yet!

From WSIL-TV:

NEW YORK (AP) – A Fox News contributor came forward to level more sexual-harassment allegations against deposed chief executive Roger Ailes on Monday, two days after it was revealed the network’s most popular on-air personality, Bill O’Reilly, has settled multiple complaints about his own behavior with women.

O’Reilly returned to the air on Monday following a weekend report in The New York Times that he and his employer had paid five women $13 million to settle allegations of sexual harassment or other inappropriate conduct by Fox’s ratings king.

Chairs are people, too, my friend!!

Even with a screwed-up computer, you didn’t think I could pass up commenting on the Rethuglican National Convention, did you, kids?  How hilarious was it that Clint Eastwood’s chair was less wooden that Mittsie?

From the Chicago Tribune:

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Months of careful planning for the Republican National Convention were hijacked by actor Clint Eastwood as traditional and social media erupted in a frenzy of scratched heads and parodies that experts said largely overshadowed presidential contender Mitt Romney’s moment in the spotlight.

Eastwood’s rambling, unscripted address at Thursday’s convention to an absent President Barack Obama in an empty chair inspired an instant satirical Twitter account, @InvisibleObama, that quickly went viral, demonstrating the power of social media to upset tightly scripted image control.

Tweedledumb and Tweedledumber

From the Atlantic wire:

The Players: Glenn Beck, a conservative provocateur who has a burgeoning news site called The Blaze ; Andrew Breitbart, a conservative provocateur who’s run his own news site Breitbart.com and conservative-slanted Big aggregation network.

The Opening Serve:  Glenn Beck hasn’t been shy about voicing his opinion on Newt Gingrich ever since the former Speaker of The House began to surge in the polls. We noted he played a little bit of gotcha journalism with Gingrich, but Beck took it a step further and went on Fox Business this past weekend to air his grievances:

If you have a big government progressive, or a big government progressive in Obama… ask yourself this, Tea Party: is it about Obama’s race? Because that’s what it appears to be to me. If you’re against him but you’re for [Newt Gingrich], it must be about race. I mean, what else is it? It’s the policies that matter.

It’s time to play the music! It’s time to light the lights! It’s time to meet the Commies on the Muppet Show tonight!

From RICHARD ROEPER at the CHICAGO SUN-TIMES:

After multiple viewings of the now-infamous Fox Business Network’s take on the new “Muppets” movie, I can come to only one conclusion.

Bonkers. They’re bonkers.

In a segment on “Follow the Money,” FBN’s Eric Bolling paired up with Dan Gainor of the right-wing Media Research Center to deliver a report that seemed straight out of “Saturday Night Live.”

“Liberal Hollywood depicting a businessman as evil, that’s not new,” said Bolling. “Dan, let’s point this out, this oil muppet, evil man that he is, is called Tex Richman.”

Gainor: “Yeah, it’s amazing how far the left will go just to stoop, to manipulate your kids, to convince them, to give [them] an anti-corporate message, I mean . . .”

Bolling: “I’ll put it out there. Is liberal Hollywood using class warfare to kind of brainwash our kids?”

Bolling asked that with a straight face. And he wasn’t even wearing a tinfoil hat.
