An opportunist gets an opportunity to be ignored

From npr:

A panel at the 2017 National Association of Black Journalists conference in New Orleans featuring White House aide Omarosa Manigault quickly went south after Manigault refused to answer questions about the administration in which she serves.

The panel made news before it even started, according to Page 6, which reported that Nikole Hannah-Jones of the New York Times and Jelani Cobb of the New Yorker refused to take part in the panel after they were informed they’d be on stage with Manigault.

Moderator and broadcast journalist Ed Gordon stepped in at the last minute, but he sparred with Manigault, almost as soon as she stepped on stage.

“Shame on you,” Manigault told Gordon just minutes after coming on stage. At one point, Gordon and Manigault both stood and paced the stage, talking each other down face-to-face. “Let me tell my story,” Manigault told Gordon. “Ask me a question about me.”

When asked about President Trump’s recent comments that police should rough up people they are detaining, Manigault said his comments were wrong.

…snip…

“You don’t walk away from the table,” Manigault responded when asked why she’d take a job in an administration seen by many in the room as hostile to African Americans. “Because if you’re not on the table, you’re on the menu,” she said. When asked about her work with the Department of Justice on policing issues, Manigault responded, “Google me.”

The crowd became increasingly angered with Manigault’s seeming refusal to answer questions about the Trump administration.

…snip…

Several conference attendees in the audience stood with their backs turned to Manigault, while others just walked out.

Sarah Glover, president of NABJ, tried to take control of the panel after some 45 minutes of confrontation on the stage. But while she urged the audience to be calm and look at all sides of the issues and hear contrasting viewpoints, Manigault silently ducked off stage, to be whisked away by her security detail.

  1. Oh well, here’s just one more example of how bad the folks are that work for Model T. They are all wimps who know nothing about diplomacy, current affairs or, how to handle a crowd or answer a pertinent question. Omarosa is full of herself and doesn’t know jack about anything and of course she can’t really talk about her boss or what goes on because she’d find her ass getting hit by the swinging exit door.

    • She’s only known for being the one everyone hated on a reality show. She followed that up by getting engaged to an actor and then having him change his will when he was very ill so that she got everything and his children got nothing. She’s not a stupid woman. She’s an opportunist and does whatever it takes to get her name in the news and her face on TV. She has no convictions other than to be famous.

      • I knew she was a beotch but didn’t know that she married for money. She is on llve with herself. Karma will bite her in the butt one day too. Smart or not , yea she always gave me the impression that she is a first class beotch. Well the her latest foray into the unknown and getting on TV was met with disaster.

  2. the loony tic

another paris hilton. no skills, no talent & just wants to be famous. blah!

    • She has skills–self-promotion, manipulating men into changing their wills, and attaching herself to anyone famous, no matter how disgusting they are.

  3. I’m glad things played out as they did, but whatever inspired the NABJ to book her in the first place? We have to stop giving fact-free Trump minions public platforms.

    • Hello Elena Carlena,

      Welcome to The Raisin! 😀

I am scratching my head along with you. Why invite her? They might say that they wanted some insight into her boss, but they knew that she would use the old “I won’t reveal personal conversations with Twitler” excuse. She has always shown herself to be an opportunist who will make every event about her, so why would they expect any kind of candidness from her?

      Buzzfeed has some more info:

Panelists had been told Manigault was going to appear onstage alone with moderator Ed Gordon. But only seconds before the panel started, those plans were changed and panelists were told that Manigault wanted to join them onstage.

      …snip…
All day Thursday, as word spread that Manigault would be on the panel, attendees expressed private dismay that she had been invited to participate with the relatives of Castile and Sterling, even after Trump’s comments about police treatment of suspects. Sarah Glover, the president of NABJ, wrote an open letter personally inviting the president, but it’s unclear if the White House had ever given an official response about the president’s attendance.

April Ryan, a White House reporter who has at times been the target of attacks from Manigault and who has accused her of trying to ruin her career (the pair used to be friends), is being honored as the organization’s journalist of the year. Ryan declined to comment when asked about Manigault’s appearance at the conference.

Another prominent black journalist told a reporter that it was unclear why the organization had made the decision at the last minute to invite her. “It’s kind of just, like, what’s the point?”

The tension did not dissipate by the time Manigault walked off the stage before the panel was complete. Gordon expressed his frustration with NABJ leadership’s decision to invite her to the conference.

“I’ll see y’all at the White House Christmas party in December,” Gordon said, raising his fist after Manigault walked out.

Castile and Sterling are Valerie Castile, the mother of Philando Castile, and Sandra Sterling, the aunt of Alton Sterling. Philando and Alton were both killed by police. April Ryan used to be friends with Omarosa, and she was supposed to be one of her bridesmaids. She and two other bridesmaids dropped out of the wedding. Ryan has accused her of trying to ruin her career, and they are bitter enemies now.

Why someone as unimportant as Omarosa being invited is baffling. She doesn’t make policy. She is only in the White House, because she kisses her boss’s ass. What was she supposed to add to the conference?

Glad you stopped by, Elena. Hope you will come back again soon! 😀

  4. She is such a fool… talk about an “Uncle Tom.”

    • If she was an idiot like some of the Twitler followers, it would be one thing, but she doesn’t have stupidity as an excuse. She’s just a self-centered asshole.
