The Mother of All Candidates

From The New York Times:

STILLWATER, Minn. — Nearly two decades ago, a stay-at-home mother and onetime federal tax lawyer named Michele Bachmann felt a spiritual calling to open her clapboard home here to troubled teenage girls.

“We had our five biological children that God gave to us, and then he called us to take foster children into our home,” Mrs. Bachmann told a Christian audience in 2006. “We thought we were going to take unwed mothers in,” she continued, adding, “We took 23 foster children into our home, and raised them, and launched them off into the world.”

They’re a page right out of history!

From The Atlanta Journal-Constitution:

Watching CNN’s Cafferty File, we learn that the collision of the Bush family and the Obama famly at the White House today was something like “the Flintstones meet the Jetsons.”

Close, but no cigar! You see, kids, I have photographic proof that Grumpy Jack was only half right. Here’s are Chimpy and Pickles greeting Michelle and Barack Obama in front of the White House.

The Politics of Fear and Loathing

From Freep:

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Christian broadcaster Pat Robertson is urging prayer before Election Day to stave off an imminent Mideast war he said could bring nuclear attacks on the United States.

In a letter on his Web site, http://www.patrobertson.com, Robertson said his opinion was that Israel would bomb Iranian nuclear sites between Nov. 4 and the inauguration of the United States’ new president.

Robertson tied his warning to biblical prophecy.

Miss Buffalo Chips or Misogyny?

Just when you thought Captain Underpants couldn’t degrade his wife anymore…from Top of the Ticket at the Los Angeles Times:

John McCain on Monday became the first presidential aspirant to attend the annual Sturgis Rally in South Dakota, an event dating back to 1938 that each year attracts hordes of enthusiasts for a week of celebrating biker culture.

…snip…

McCain, [Times’s Bob] Drogin relates, told his rowdy listeners “that he had encouraged his wife to enter the annual Sturgis beauty contest, one in which nudity is not uncommon. … ‘I told her with a little luck she could be the only lady to serve as first lady and Miss Buffalo Chip,’ he said with a broad grin.”
