Paul Manafort, You Bug Me

From ABIGAIL TRACY at VANITY FAIR:

While Donald Trump and his surrogates were loudly campaigning against Robert Mueller on Twitter and on TV, the special counsel and his team of F.B.I. investigators has been quietly building their case, the details of which burst into public view Wednesday when The Washington Post reported that the bureau searched the home of Trump’s former campaign chairman Paul Manafort in a dramatic pre-dawn raid at the end of last month.

The raid, which occurred one day after Manafort met with the Senate Intelligence Committee, indicates that the Justice Department investigation has entered a heightened stage—and that Mueller is willing to use any investigative tools at his disposal to determine the extent of the Russian government’s interference in the presidential election

They’ll get the most beautiful cake with the most beautiful file in it!

From BUSINESS INSIDER:

Speculation is mounting that President Donald Trump could issue a pardon to members of his family and close associates who are suspected of colluding with Russia in the 2016 campaign.

…snip…

The June 2016 meeting of Donald Trump Jr., Paul Manafort, Jared Kushner and Russian go-betweens promising dirt about Hillary Clinton raises the specter of criminal liability under campaign finance laws.

The Full Sekulow

From BUSINESS INSIDER:

President Donald Trump’s lawyer faced difficult questions on Sunday about Donald Trump Jr.’s attempt to glean damaging information on Hillary Clinton during a meeting with a Kremlin-connected Russian lawyer.

While Trump Jr.’s lawyers have remained primarily behind the scenes, the president’s personal lawyer has become a ubiquitous presence on television, performing the so-called “Full Ginsberg” by appearing on all five major political talk shows on Sunday.

Layers of an Onion Dome

From The New York Times:

President Trump’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., was promised damaging information about Hillary Clinton before agreeing to meet with a Kremlin-connected Russian lawyer during the 2016 campaign, according to three advisers to the White House briefed on the meeting and two others with knowledge of it.

What a load!

From Vox:

No matter what President Donald Trump seems to do — or how angry he seems to get — the Russia investigation just won’t go away. That became even more apparent over the past 24 hours […].

That’s because the Washington Post reported Wednesday night that special counsel Robert Mueller and his team of all-stars are expanding their Russia probe and now directly investigating whether Trump was trying to obstruct justice when he fired former FBI Director James Comey.

In addition, the New York Times reported yesterday that the investigation is looking into whether Trump associates laundered money they’d received from Russia, presumably as part of a payoff for colluding with Moscow during the campaign.

The Hundred Days Boor

From the Mirror:

Before his election, Donald Trump repeatedly pledged to “make America great again”, laying out an ambitious plan for his first 100 days.

His “contract with the voter” listed 28 promises he would deliver.

Well, the 100 days are up today and so far he has lived down to expectations by failing to deliver on a single major issue.

In the run-up to the milestone day, he moaned: “This is more work than in my previous life. I thought it would be easier.”

But one thing the US President has managed is to achieve more mayhem and confusion than any of his 44 predecessors.

He went to Jared!

From NBC NEWS:

The speculation began almost immediately after Donald Trump was elected: Who would have the ear of the famously unpredictable 45th president?

For a time it appeared that White House adviser Steve Bannon, memorably depicted as the Grim Reaper on “Saturday Night Live,” was the power behind the throne. Another trusted aide, Kellyanne Conway, was also said to be an influential member of Trump’s inner circle. And then there were Vice President Mike Pence, Chief of Staff Reince Priebus and Senior Policy Adviser Stephen Miller — all skilled and ambitious political animals vying for the boss’ attention.

But two months into Trump’s presidency, it’s becoming clear that blood and family have trumped ambition on Pennsylvania Avenue with First Daughter Ivanka Trump emerging as a powerbroker in her own right, along with her husband Jared Kushner.
