Conservative Christians Want Republicans to Stop Pampering David Vitter

From the Christian Post:

A conservative Christian group sent Louisiana Senator David Vitter, who in 2007 confessed to using the services of a high-profile prostitution ring, a letter Monday calling on him to follow former New York Rep. Anthony Weiner’s lead and resign.

…snip…

Several Democratic leaders, including House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, had called for Weiner’s resignation.

Unlike Weiner, Vitter, who admitted to “serious sin” in 2007 after his number was disclosed by the alleged prostitution ring “D.C. Madam,” never faced the same pressure from fellow Republicans to resign following his scandal.

Take Them Out! To the ballgame, I mean.

From Mitchell Bard at THE HUFFINGTON POST:

Noted football coach Bill Parcells once said, “You are what your record says you are.”

Parcells’ quote jumped into my mind when I was thinking about the slate of Tea Party-influenced Republicans running in November. I feel like we’ve become immune to the stories about the extreme and, sometimes, downright delusional things they’ve said, since they’ve come in a steady stream over the past several months. But if you step back and look at the group as a whole (or at least some of the leading Tea Party favorites), you can get a real sense of what the Republican Party is offering voters in November.

If he gets his butt kicked, will he feel it through the diaper?

From Talking Points Memo:

There are no shortage of conservatives in Louisiana who’d like to retire David Vitter. But late this afternoon, one prominent Republican decided to make a go of it, entering the race at the last possible moment to take on the scandal-plagued senator in the GOP primary this August.

Meet Chet Traylor, a former Louisiana Supreme Court Justice well-connected in Louisiana Republican political and business circles circles, who surprised everyone this afternoon by qualifying at the witching hour to challenge Vitter.

Vitter has plenty of money in the bank and, with just weeks to go, time on his side. But Traylor could catch up quickly.

Poor Little Diaper Davy! That’s enough to make someone poopie in his pants!

Well, he *does* appear to have a lot of baggage…

From POLITICAL HOTSHEET at CBS NEWS:

You might not know [George Alan] Rekers, but he has long played a prominent role behind the scenes in the social conservative movement: A member of the founding board of the conservative Family Research Council, Rekers has authored books on how to ensure that children grow up straight.

A Baptist minister and former research fellow at Harvard University, Rekers has testified against gay adoptions and is on the board of National Association for Research & Therapy of Homosexuality, which is focused on helping gay people turn straight.

According to [a Miami] New Times story, by Penn Bullock and Brandon K. Thorp, Rekers was spotted returning from a ten-day trip to Europe with a young man identified as Lucien [the name he uses at the site is Geo], who he allegedly met on a gay website called Rentboy.com.

It’s that old argument–I’m not gay, but my boyfriend is!

The Party of No Can’t Keep It Up For Long

From TALKING POINTS MEMO:

The Louisiana Democrats released a snarky little statement today, calling out Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK), who has introduced a health care amendment to the try to prevent states from providing drugs like Viagra to convicted sex offenders.

Said the Dems of Coburn: “Surely he would agree that anyone who has admitted or been found guilty of involvement with prostitution should not be covered either.”

Coburn’s amendment seeks to cut off federal funds to those on Medicaid who are “convicted sex offenders, child molesters, and rapists,” because sexual enhancement drugs are covered under the program.

We reported earlier that the Republican strategy to derail the reconciliation bill is to force Democrats to vote down politically juiced-up amendments so that they can paint Dems as sympathetic to sex offenders and fraudsters in November.

Perhaps the LA Dems had Sen. David Vitter (R-LA), who has been known to dally with prostitutes in the past, on their minds when crafting that statement.

Scandalapalooza!

With the recent focus on Mark Sanford and John Ensign (before they killed Michael Jackson to get reporters off their backs), the spotlight is once again upon past scandals of those in the party of family values. I thought we would take a stroll down memory lane…

He *Should* Be on the Extramarital Relations Committee Instead

From The Times-Picayune:

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Louisiana Democrats attacked U.S. Sen. David Vitter over his vote Thursday against Secretary of State nominee Hillary Clinton, which Vitter said stemmed from concerns about overseas conflicts of interest.

The Louisiana Republican was the only member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee to oppose the nomination, saying Clinton shouldn’t run the State Department because of her husband’s charitable fundraising overseas.

Witness for the Prostitution

From The Times-Picayune:

WASHINGTON — The woman accused of being the “D.C. Madam” plans to call Sen. David Vitter, R-La., as a defense witness, her attorney said in court Monday as the high-profile racketeering and money-laundering trial got under way.

Vitter’s name is among those listed as potential witnesses at the outset of the trial of Deborah Jeane Palfrey, 52, who ran a $250-per-hour escort service that the government says was a front for prostitution. Palfrey has said her business was a legitimate escort service and her employees signed contracts stating that they would not do anything illegal.
